informative lighthearted

This book was fabulous! Yes, I’m a Slytherin so I am biased, but this was so well done. It was great to hear the behind the scenes hijinks when making the HP films, but the last couple chapters when he talks about his mental health and going to rehab is so honest and open. Definitely listen to the audiobook because Tom reads it.

I really enjoyed reading about Tom Felton and his experience with Harry Potter and growing-up…including post-Potter years. I had no idea about his substance abuse and struggles with mental health and felt that he shared just enough to be authentic without being pandering.

On the one hand, reading Tom Felton’s memoir was full of Harry Potter nuggets of goodness. It is charming, easy to read, and genuine. On the other hand, a lot of the writing is a bit clunky (I’ve heard the audio book is Tom and I expect it’s better read by him than reading it in my head), doesn’t completely follow a through point, and did not go where I expected.

I am glad to have a book that highly regards mental health and talks openly about the struggles of growing up a star, but I felt as though parts of the book were just awkward, particularly when he spoke about himself. It’s a lot of narration and while that is definitely the point of a memoir, my favourite memoirs leave you to gather the point from their stories and thoughts, they don’t tell you flat out.

Nonetheless, reading Beyond the Wand gave me a healthy appreciation for the HP stars outside of HRH and imbued me with a lot more respect for Tom Felton. I echo the sentiment of many readers when I say he sounds like someone you would like to be friends with.

Really enjoyed Tom Felton’s book!

I listened to this audiobook, and it’s honestly the best autobiography I’ve read! Plus hearing Tom’s story in his own voice

One of the best memiors and I am not just saying that bc it's largely about his time in Harry Potter. It's a short book, but he really is detailed and tells u all the stories about his family, growing up, being in Harry Potter, and life after Harry Potter.
From the dedication to the chapter titles/subtitles to the acknowledgements and everything in between....it's funny and endearing.
If you are a fan of Potter, he tells us so much about his experiences, the other actors, and goes behind the scenes. It's everything a fan could ask for.
He is honest and real about his mess-ups and screwups and his mental health struggles.
Throughout it all, his humor and positivity shines through.
It's magical, I enjoyed every page.
