I'm sure some will love this book. For me I could never quite get into it, the lack of plot and the tensing of it made it feel a bit like just the authors meandering thoughts, but told through a character. Some good bits but overall not for me on this read.

I admit, some parts were insightful and thought provoking. Although they far and few in between the boomer-coded self-absorbent romanticisation and dramatisation of the pandemic. Also the lead was insufferably selfish
Set during the pandemic, a single, sixty + year old women, grapples with the complexity of life as she cares for a friend’s parrot and learns to get a long with an unexpected housemate. Nunez’s literary references are brillant as are her observations of contemporary life.

This book is short, sweet, and soothing. It is simple, a stream-of-consciousness novel that reads like a memoir and treatise to writing itself, to memory itself. We know exactly how the narrator feels about herself, what she wants, and how she is affected. It takes place during 2020 but does not feel heavy or wearisome.
