I knew next to nothing about the plot before starting, and I was not expecting such heavy subjects, especially right out of the shoot. However, I really enjoyed the book.

This book was fascinating and definitely not something I usually read. Unless it's Silvia Moreno-Garcia, I don't usually care for character-driven stories or such slow paces. This book wants you to sit in Phoebe's emotions and thoughts, experience everything that she's experiencing, and just be there for the ride.

The story itself is a poignant look into a life worth living and how even random people you meet can alter the trajectory of your life. While this book had good moments of devastation and sadness, it countered it with moments of joy and elation. There were genuinely funny bits (Juice) and moments that made you see someone for more than the caricature they were initially introduced as.

My biggest gripe with it simply stands on Phoebe sometimes just turning into Therapist for every person she meets and how willing every single person was to open up to her. In a world set in realism, that was the most unrealistic to me.

But overall very poignant, bright, and delivers hope without being too mushy about it.
