This was a fun read, and an insightful look into the complexity of entering and exiting relationships.

I didn’t really connect to this book as much as the people that recommended it did. There were parts that I loved but found some of it very repetitive. Overall I did enjoy it and I want a sequel but I’m not sure I’d rave about it as hard as people are

A book with such solid pacing and interesting characters.

The Wedding People was on best of lists for 2024 by many fellow trusted readers and reviewers so I knew I had to buy myself a copy. The characters had depth, the writing was good, the connections between the story and some literary classics, and the emotion all made it a fantastic read.

Know that there are some TWs for this one and check out StoryGraph to learn what they are. If you can, and feel comfortable, go in blind. Just know this is about a woman who has wanted to go to this special hotel with her husband and now under different circumstances arrives at the hotel to find a wedding is taking place and she is the odd guest not attending the wedding.

I absolutely loved this book. I laughed, I cried, I got frustrated, I was happy/giddy— Alison Espoch did an amazing job of making me feel every emotion the main character was feeling. The Wedding People is a beautiful story of finding hope after hitting rock bottom. Definitely read the content warnings for this one, but it was so worth the read. This book felt like a big hug, and I had to sit in silence after I finished it to really appreciate what I just read. Only took off .25 stars because
I didn’t love how quickly Pheobe’s thoughts turned around from being actively suicidal to being uncertain, yet excited, for her new life post-failed suicide attempt. Most times, healing from something like that and reframing your thoughts takes a lot of time, effort, and is not a linear journey. I think if there were just a couple more slip ups in her  thoughts throughout the book where she has to pull herself back out of that mindset it would’ve been more of a truly hopeful and realistic experience. I also know all this had to take place during the wedding week for the sake of the plot so I was able to let it go while reading
. That being said, I highly recommend the book. It’s only January, but this is definitely going to be one of my favorite books of the year. I’d not only reread it, but I also feel like I’d get something new out of it every time I read it. This is one of those books I am going to continuously think about and come back to.
