Have you ever been trapped in an elevator? Have you ever been trapped in an elevator along with people you work with but can not tolerate?

Well imagine this scenario in which four executives who work in Wall Street are invited to attend a meeting only to realize the elevator which was supposed to take them to their intended floor, has become an escape room. At first they think it is a game engineered by their bosses to evaluate their skill and proficiency but as the hours pass and the clues are revealed, they realize the rules of this escape room are different.
Secrets, lies, conspiracies and literal and figurative skeletons are going to be unraveled in this game of cat and mouse. But who is the cat? Who is pulling the strings? And are these four people ever going to come out alive?

The plot of The Escape Room is predictable and sometimes slow-paced but somehow you find yourself engrossed enough not to be able to resist turning the pages to see where the story leads you.

Set in the cut-throat investment banking world of Wall Street, the plot is driven by ambition, appearances, competitiveness, ruthlessness, greed and MONEY! Is this how people actually live, work, play and earn in the highest stratosphere of Corporate World?? Mindboggling! Chapters alternate between Sara’s story, more or less told chronologically. She’s the new recruit who has finally landed on her feet after snaring a job at the most prestigious firm in NYC. Other chapters are in the present where four of the firm’s stars are trapped in a high-rise elevator participating in what they believe is an escape room game designed to decide the next head on the chopping block. As time ticks by and the situation becomes increasingly desperate, it is clear that the stakes are much higher. I felt that the elaborate revenge plan was a bit far-fetched but they always are. And the ending was much too abrupt for my liking. But this was an intriguing psychological thriller that definitely had me turning the pages.

It took me a bit to get into this book. But, once I did I was hooked and couldn't put it down. What a great debut album!

2 1/2 stars because: GR just deleted my entire review; I can't copy & paste quotes from Libby; I finished last night & this book still irritates me.

If this book hadn't been reccomended by a friend, I would have DNFed in the first few chapters. I promised myself not to waste time on white men's misogynistic BS this year, & while this book may be by a woman (I had to check), the BS was overwhelming at times.

I had a number of small issues that added up. The book could have used some editing, to cut down unnecessary information. The entire plot requires the reader to put faith in outdated, misogynistic practices, & the author focused on odd things regarding the female characters & their bodies. (I felt like I was reading a mockery from "Men Writing Women" at times.)

The characters were unlikable (on purpose), the mystery was not there at first, & when it was there, it was boring. Even the additional information we didn't know - it didn't seem exciting.

We either have too little or way too much information, with no grey area in between.

Zero representation, & I'm not wasting time typing quotes that represent a book I really didn't enjoy.
