gripping, but ever so slightly too much build-up for the pay-off

Teenagers and the Greek Tragedies...a perfect mix. I really enjoy this author’s writing and how she turns classics into modern day tales.

I enjoyed it - the story was interesting, with a series of mysteries to solve (what Bad Thing happened, who did it and/or who are the Furies, how and why is the narrator involved, etc.) along with an exploration of the intersecting lives of some troubled teenagers and a grownup who ends up connecting with them through Greek tragedy while she herself is (at best) numb with grief.

Some bits were very fun and quotable. For example, the narrator comments that her former theatre professor won't even consider going to the zoo unless maybe there's a performance of A Winter's Tale put on next to the bear cage.
