I enjoyed it - the story was interesting, with a series of mysteries to solve (what Bad Thing happened, who did it and/or who are the Furies, how and why is the narrator involved, etc.) along with an exploration of the intersecting lives of some troubled teenagers and a grownup who ends up connecting with them through Greek tragedy while she herself is (at best) numb with grief.

Some bits were very fun and quotable. For example, the narrator comments that her former theatre professor won't even consider going to the zoo unless maybe there's a performance of A Winter's Tale put on next to the bear cage.

Repetitive, not very interesting. Got bored.

I thought this book was just brilliant. Well-written, suspenseful and very touching at times.

this was such a great book omg.
like from the beginning you know something bad happened but it takes its time to show you what exactly and then it still comes as a surprise.
also it probably took me way to long to get why only the one person's diary entries were shown lalila

i loved every moment I spent with this book and I actually think it was nice to take longer for a book again.

I literally just read this book in one sitting I think it took about 2 hours.

I got this as a review copy from Waterstones and I wasn't really expecting much I don't even remember requesting it, so I went in with fairly low expectations....they were completely blow out of the water I freaking LOVED this book!!

I don't want to give anything away so I suggest you just read the synopsis on here, as I will likely say something wrong and give something away.

This book is almost flawless, the main character (Alex Morris) is somewhat pathetic, but when you view what she has experienced and so on I think you'll agree she has a right to be, her interest in Greek plays is fascinating. I have never studied them or had much interest but the way they are brought into this novel is brilliant and I may have to investigate some. The writing style is simple but so effective the plot and the characters don't need an embellished writing style.

I love how the novel is told from the part of Alex and one of her students, I like the insight into the other side of teaching and how Alex perceives herself and how one of her students does.

I have not felt this strongly about a book in a long time, I 100% would recommend reading.

The Furies was a really enjoyable semi-thriller. It’s not a mystery, but there is this constant sense of tension throughout as new information is revealed. The format and narrative were gripping, and I liked the tonal shift that was provided by diary entries and letters.
The novel also has some really beautiful words about the ache of loss and grief, and it provides a good perspective on what it must feel like to lose the person closest to you.
