Simmons delivers with 'Summer of Night.' Similar to King's 'It' but unique. Lots of fun to read and very, very well-written.
3.5* rounded up. A lot of good, but also a lot of missed potential. Simmons did a great job setting the stage of 1960 Illinois, but while this book feels like it could be a companion piece to books like Stephen King’s IT and Robert McCammon’s Boy’s Life, I think it’s the lesser of the three. A solid premise, but some parts did drag and nothing was ever adequately explained so, like I said, missed potential. Nevertheless, it’s still a good read.
Great book! Clearly inspired by It, but it progresses at a much slower pace. I still very much enjoyed the story and the characters were vivid. I will definitely be reading more by Dan Simmons!

Hands down one of the best books I have ever read, across all genres. If you love IT, Stand By me and others, you'll love this.
A nostalgic slice of small-town horror that instantly gave me It vibes. Simmons blends coming-of-age friendships, creeping dread, and supernatural menace into something both chilling and strangely comforting. The mix of childhood adventure with dark, lingering terror really hit the spot — classic Simmons atmosphere.
