i absolutely did find myself scared, especially the first third while it set the scene (albeit i’d been home alone as well)…. and as the story progressed i was still spooked but totally enthralled in the twisty turns and unraveled truths. taylor adams writes a pretty killer thriller! ~4.5 stars

I read THE LAST WORD pretty quickly. The suspense kept me reading, but I figured a lot of it out by the end. It deal with some pretty heave topics--death of a child, death of a parent, grief, and suicidal ideation. I actually preferred the non-thriller part of the story more than the actual thriller. I liked Emma and Laika a lot. I liked her story with Shawn and I would've preferred reading a whole story about them and their grief. As it stands, the author going crazy because of a 1-star review was a fun premise, but I didn't like the "book within a book" idea. I think it's mostly due to the male narrator that I really disliked listening to. I wonder if I'd have liked it more if I hadn't listened to the audio.
This gets going so quickly I thought maybe it had several stories in one.
High energy, good reveals, and many thriller tropes. Not anything super original but very well done for what it is.

3.5 stars it was pretty fun, and everytime I thought it was over it kept going. Most importantly the dog lives so give it a whirl!
