This was a February 2025 Book Club read. I’d give it a solid 3. I enjoyed it for the most part. It needed a tighter  edit. When the story was focused on the central mystery, it was compelling and heart felt. I feel like it took too many tangents that pulled me out of the story and affected my ability to resonate with the characters.

I will say that my enjoyment of this book in general was severely hampered by the purely awful audiobook narration, particularly Norma’s. Joe’s sections were okay. Both narrators frequently mispronounced words which made me cringe and broke immersion. I’d strongly recommend reading this in paper or e-book format and avoiding the audiobook.

A very sad but beautiful story. Other than the uncomfortable moments through her life, I can't find anything I don't like about this book. The adventure, the hope, the family, and the love, are all things I loved about it. And of course, the ending!

The narrative shifts between the past and present which reminds me of the multiple narrative that has been so popular of late with authors like Jodi Piccoult and Liane Moriarty. And while I have personally tired of that structure this was enough of a departure to be original and refreshing. I realized a twist was bound to come before things resolved and it was done. Reasonable character arc for some yet not all the characters---which is also believable. Enjoyed the second half more than the first.
