I really enjoyed this book! It was exceptionally well-written and captivated me from the very first page.
The story is told from the perspectives of three characters: a husband, a wife, and a young homeless girl who has a baby.
I found it hard to like the husband and wife, even though the wife had some redeeming qualities. The husband, Chris, came off as really unpleasant, and I struggled to find anything likeable about him. Do some men really dislike their wives this much?
He seems driven only by money and is emotionally distant from his family. He often expresses his disdain for his wife, both in terms of her looks and her personality and then tells us how much he likes hearing about anything related to menstruation and seems disgusted at the thought of his daughter going through it. It’s pretty unsettling!
On the other hand, I really connected with Willow, the homeless teenager. She’s completely different from the couple. Though some of her actions might seem extreme, I can empathise with her circumstances.
The story unfolds gradually and intelligently, keeping me guessing throughout. I would have rated it five stars, but I felt the ending was a bit rushed just to tie up all the loose ends. Still, it was an excellent read overall!

3.5 stars. Did not really care for the ending. I feel as if things were wrapped up but still questions have yet to be answered. This was a less intense/ slow to unfold book then some of Mary’s other books. I think I have one left to read by her.
Another multiple point of view story. This one features 3 narrators, only one of which is remotely likable. That said, I continued reading and was rewarded with a suspenseful tale, though a tragic one.
Didn't love it as much as The Good Girl but great ending! Beginning was definitely slow
