This was a big hard to read as a mother emotionally, but pretty good. Definitely see the pain each character is carrying. I felt like I wanted more answered for some of the characters at the end, but overall pretty good twist I didn't expect at all.

This was quite the trip, from several different characters' perspectives and I rather enjoyed that unique take. I didn't know what to expect as far as the ending, but overall I think it was a good ending.
Didn’t rlly care how this book ended
Told from 3 points of view, this story was just about as twisted as they get. Heidi is a woman who is the consummate do-gooder working for a non-profit with immigrants and their needs in transitioning to life in the US. Chris, her husband, works in the financial world and is out of town on business trips for days at a time. Finally, there is Willow the waif like young girl with a baby that Heidi discovers on the subway in Chicago.
Heidi discovers Willow and the baby in her journey to work and brings her home out of the goodness of her heart, or so we think. Chris hates the idea of having a stranger in their home and insists that the family, Heidi, Chris, and daughter, Zoe, sleep in the master bedroom with the door locked while Willow is there.
The story unfolds through the characters' narratives and it becomes apparent that the character motives are very different from what we originally thought.
A very good read.

(Audio book) Heidi was straight whack-a-doodle. This book was just ok for me because I disliked Heidi so much.

the twist in this book had me SHOOK.
another great story by mary kubica, further solidifying that she’s becoming one of my fave authors.
i would say this book deals with darker themes (as do most of her books), but this one felt more intense somehow and maybe you should double check the content warnings before jumping in.

This is the second book I’ve read by Mary Kubica (the first being Local Woman Missing) and I genuinely love her writing and she knows how to write a GREAT twist. I’m the type of person who likes to know/guess what’s coming so Kubica’s books have been very enticing for me. The reason that my rating is a little low is because I felt like there were lots of subplots that were disregarded, and I guess particularly Zoe as a character. Also the climax and conclusion felt rushed. I did like the book, however it was also much darker than what I was expecting.
