These are very clever, and three cheers for Dwight's mom!

My 8 year-old-son absolutely loved this book!! but I find it hard to choose books that he actually becomes interested in. Any suggestions???

It's just great

Although these books still don't come anywhere near the Wimpy Kid series, I did enjoy this one marginally more than the first. The extra star is because Dwight is really growing on me (I mean, who wouldn't love a guy whose answer to annoying questions is 'Purple'?!) and it's got me interested in watching the Star Wars movies again for a spot of nostalgia.

Nanny Books

I read the first Origami Yoda book as part of the Seattle Public Library's Global Reading Challenge (for my students). At the end, I knew I would recommend it to my students. I wanted to go ahead and read this one, to see if I should recommend the whole series! At this end of this one, I feel confident that I could recommend this series to a number of my students. They are fun, the chapters are short so easy to find stopping places, but that also helps with the pacing. The writing is how students talk, so I think they will feel part of the group. Star Wars is so big right now, that I think they will really want to read them too! Definitely recommend.

Here's the thing. I read these books for the sake of my students. But now that I've read two, I kind of want to read the next (for me) just because I want to know what else the author will come up with!

Dwight is still using his Origami Yoda to dispense wisdom. Tommy, some guys, and some girls, still believe Origami Yoda is real, giving advice that Dwight wouldn't have the sense to give. But now Harvey has made Darth Paper, and Darth Paper has accessed the Dark Side--and successfully vanquished Dwight. Can Tommy's casefile save Dwight from reform school? Can the Rebel Alliance defeat The Empire?

For me, this book wasn't quite as good as Origami Yoda. Still funny, but everything was expected; the Star Wars references, the doodles, Harvey's commentary. I was actually surprised at the beginning, to find that this would be a continuation of The Strange Case of Origami Yoda--for whatever reason, I imagined it would be a whole different set of characters, new school, etc. But this actually worked very well. It was still funny, the format was still exactly right for the story, the premise is still ridiculously perfect for the audience.
