This book was hilarious. Broody McHottersomethingoranother is hilarious and Blondie Demeani is the real main character here. Filled with fun quizzes, charts, pictures, and games, this book is an enjoyable read. Although the book has an enjoyable story and somewhat reads like a novel, its advice is helpful for wannabe Young Adult novelists.

Not for everyone, but fans of young adult literature should laugh a lot while reading it. Allusions abound. I did most of my laughing during the early pages (and the laughing to the point of sobbing kind--the great kind). It is repetitive at parts, as others have remarked, but I am glad I read the full book.

This is funny in small doses but a whole book is just too much

This book is an absolute joy. Broody is a wonderful main character, laugh out loud funny. But the book isn't just a tongue-in-cheek look at YA tropes. It also touches on some major issues, but in a very sensitive way. In addition, there are such neat sections, such as fun quizzes.

I also like how Broody breaks down parts of books, story structure, and fandom into fun, bite-sized pieces.

I have the ARC, so I didn't get to see all the lovely artwork yet (I've pre-ordered my copy of the finished book, though), but I think readers will find this delightful. I know I did.

It’s a really funny book, I must say. Sometimes, though, (during the interlude parts) was boring and, for me, unnecessary. Like, the “plot” part was soooooo predictable and trashy! Broody’s development was really but REALLY bad, I couldn’t understand how the author was criticizing those things and then putting them into the plot. I gave it 3 stars because it was mostly entertaining, hilarious and so quickly to read. For a one day book, was okay and it was original.

This was such a clever idea for a book. I enjoyed the egocentric narration and perspective, but the criticism regarding the stereotypes of YA novels and the unrealistic features of the characters and the absurdness of some of the plots were beautifully interwoven. I liked how the novel humoured the fact that the female protagonists and male heroes have been so predictable for the past couple of years: the girl is insecure and different, the boy who she ends up falling in love is an egocentric jerk who emotionally abuses her.
It was fun to read.

hard to review this since it's a cross between a narrative and a satirical guide. it was laugh out loud funny in many places but also I think the narrative part could have used better pacing bc I felt it was cramming a lot of the character development for Broody and Blondie and discussion of underrepped/marginalized voices toward the latter half. some of those parts about diversity in YA were a little awkwardly worded. I'll probably revisit this after the final version with the illustrations comes out since a key component of the book is missing from the ARC so I haven't really experienced the book fully.
