Alright tbh the last chapter was pretty good but everything leading up to that just felt like throwing stuff at the wall with no aim.
It wants to be comedic, it wants to be a unique fun fantasy story, but also somewhat character driven and actually have a plot. But the execution is just not good.
The jokes are not very good, listen raunchy jokes and jokes about drugs can be funny but like this wasn’t it. They’re constant and just distract from the story. By the first chapter I was already annoyed by the jokes, it was like they’re trying to be witty but fail. Like all the jokes were about balls and drugs really, nothing wrong with that of course but this wasn’t it. I only found the jokes funny by the last chapter. I couldn’t take these characters seriously cuz they were just making bad painful jokes. I mean like friends do that so ig realistic. it felt like it was the whole identity of the comic is being adult and raunchy and so the characters were just vessels for jokes. But the comic doesn’t want to be just a comedy.
They try to put in character moments and a plot but yeah didn’t work. I like the concept of this group, a group of tough vulgar girls with fun personalities. But I really only liked Betty. She actually had an arc that was handled well. Also queer character rep! But the characters are mostly just arguing, joking, or drinking when they’re not fighting and it makes it hard to care about them. They all kinda feel samey. And the character arcs are just thrown in and it feels like they are just trying to throw ideas at the wall.
The characters are supposed to be flawed I think which I like. It’s good to have fantasy characters that aren’t just standard pure good. But like they’re always arguing or yelling, it just made them annoying.More of a Nitpick.
I did like how the characters play off eachother though they really do feel like a team. And also how they interacted with the side characters, made the world feel more alive. Also I liked the side characters what little we saw.

Next the plot. I wasn’t into the plot at all, it wasn’t really interesting. Basically just someone’s trying to kill them but it just felt like it was there to give them something to do to keep it from being slice of life. With a good cast any plot can becoming interesting but not here. The cast again is fine and does it’s job but I really was never on the edge of my seat.

The art however is good. Good character designs, action designs, style, etc. The art was actually interesting to look at.

Really idk what to think about this. It’s just annoying and uninteresting until the last chapter. I loved the concept but the execution needed work.

Well this was an... um interesting trip, I guess. I have to admit that several times during the book I was thinking of dropping it. It was a bit too vulgar and gory for me. But I pushed, mostly because I wanted to know about the assassins and I wanted to learn more about the characters.

Because, damn, those characters are epic. I love all of them, but especially Betty. Though I really had to keep reminding myself she was probably an adult, and not a kid which she really looked like. I also liked her story line a lot, and I loved how she was tiny but kick really major ass.
Violet, Hannah and lastly, Dee. All fantastic characters with talents, backgrounds and a total kick-ass attitude that made me laugh and made me cheer for them. Sure, they didn't always do stuff right and sure, they apparently exploded and caused chaos, but they all have good hearts.
The only things I didn't like was how vulgar they were. Cursing, crude talks about sex, booze and more. At times it just seemed way over the top.

I did like the story in this one, unlike a lot of comics I have read recently, everything is explained and you can just ease in the story and relax and cheer for the girls and the other groups.

The colours and illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and fabulous. I love the way the characters are drawn. They really looked like they could just step out of the book.

The only thing I didn't like was the gore, I can handle a bit of things, but seeing an arrow pierce someone's neck, seeing someone's brains fly around or see hands being cut off (and see the bones and such), is just something that made my stomach go up and down and made me sick. It was also a reason why I wanted to drop this book at times. It was just too much.

Will I be reading the second volume? And maybe even the rest of this series? Yes, yes I will. I might get squeamish and I might get sick, I might get tired and feel bad about the vulgarity, but I want to know more about the characters, it seems the next one will be all about Dee and her backstory, and I am so curious about her. She seems to love books more than parties and I want to know more about N'rygoth.

All in all, even with the times I wanted to drop the book, even with all the vulgarity, I will rate this book a 4 stars. Because I did enjoy it + I found a cast of characters that I can't just leave alone.

DNF.  The characters all felt like caricatures with a surface level plot.

I liked the first two issues better than 3 and 4, and 5 was a nice cliffhanger.

Brilliant fun!

Sassy, foul mouthed D&D chicks in comic book form. Made me laugh out loud and smile all the way through. Well worth a read for something different to the usual Hero style comics and if you're familiar (though you really don't have to be) with fantasy characters you'll enjoy a new take on it.

The Rat Queens are four sassy ladies banded together as a premier Adventuring group where Adventurers are causing more harm than good. When someone puts a hit out on the cities Adventuring groups, they must work out who it is and stop them. They love to drink, get high, have sex, loot and kill things.

I'm really looking forward to Volume 2

New favorite graphic novel! Rat queens is a hilarious, feminist and diverse comic with lots of action. I love all our different characters and the pacing is fast. The art features bright colors that catch your attention and also fight scenes that are actually understandable and not rushed.
Loved it, can't wait for the next one!
