This book got so much hype, and I'm way behind the curve in getting to it. And for the first third, I ... didn't really see what the big deal was? It was a super slow start for me, but once stuff started HAPPENING on the island, I was in. It's such an interesting take on the castaway trope, and I think the author is largely successful in reinventing it. I was definitely invested in the characters and what happened to them. The writing is pretty controlled; the only quibble I have is in the flashes to the present and the ending. I think a linear construction would have made the plot more suspenseful, and the ending scene was so BLEH to me. But I still liked the whole thing a lot, overall! In any case, similar to [b:Station Eleven|20170404|Station Eleven|Emily St. John Mandel|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1451446835s/20170404.jpg|28098716], this is a book that reinforced that I would die a quick, passive death if I were ever in a survival situation.

I think this book just ripped my soul in two...💔heartbreaking read, but gosh I loved this book
All the feels. Did not see the ending coming. A heart warming and heart wrenching story, but SO good and so worth reading. Definitely one of those stories I will think about for a long time.
