Read this book growing up a few times, and read it again recently. One of my all time favorites. 5/5.

One of my favorite books, I have loved it since I was 11 years old! I'M GETTING PUMPED JUST THINKING ABOUT IT. This was Edge of Tomorrow before Edge of Tomorrow was Edge of Tomorrow. You feel the frustration the main character feels. If you play video games as I do it is extremely relatable but with much higher stakes involved making it feel increasingly more urgent, giving it that exciting edge most good books need. 10/10 would recommend to a friend. Needed in all lives. If you are still reading this review, stop. What you need to read is Heir Apparent.

The writing is a little simple - written for kids tho, so what can I expect. However, the ending was just odd.

Sorry not sorry I personally love this book and really need to get the User Unfriendly book to round out the series. I love that this book is about a female gamer, and that she has her own logic and reasons for her decisions in the completely immersive VR game that she is hooked into. I liked that she made mistakes and had to repeat certain parts of the game over and over. Anyone who games and has to go back and do the same part over and over can totally relate to this book. A book geared at girls but boys will enjoy this too centered around video games fifth grade on up a book that makes you wonder how many times have you died in a video game and had to restart and would you want to play if you were completely immersed and couldn’t stop playing until you won

It is creative and snappy and does not dither around too much. Just what one need at certain age.

I feel like I would have liked this book so very much if it would have met me when I was a kid.

I read this book as a child and it left an impression on me. I decided to reread it immediately following my dreadful experience with [b:Ready Player One|9969571|Ready Player One|Ernest Cline|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1489368740s/9969571.jpg|14863741] because it's also set primarily in a virtual reality role playing game.

Yeah, Heir Apparent still holds up. Even keeping in mind it's intended for upper elementary/middle schoolers, it's not the most inventive thing ever written, but it's a fun and funny romp through classic sword-and-sorcerery scenarios, with realistic RPG frustrations. The framing device was skeletal at best and I'm not sure of the extent of the protagonist's character development at the book's conclusion, but the couple hours I spent reading passed quickly and contentedly.
