This novel had me tearing through the last 100 pages at light speed. From the beginning, I was fully engrossed in the world Ng created. A “perfect” suburbia that its members will do anything to protect. A wandering mother and daughter who “disrupt” the norm of the suburbia. As the many characters’ lives intertwine, the reader sees how quickly something big, or small, can tear families and communities apart. The commentary on classism and racism is heard loud and clear, and I hope readers take these warnings and act upon them. I’m sure this novel will be endearingly considered a classic in the near future.

I was absolutely blown away by the selfishness of the characters - mostly the Richardson family. When something interrupts your perfect world, you’ll do anything to keep it unharmed.
