me? enjoying comic book art? it’s more likely than you think.
but seriously, the art is so, so beautiful and i love any arc where natasha gets the nuance she deserves.

I really wanted to like this book. It has some good parts tho.

After reading Captain Marvel last month, I went hunting for more comics with strong female leads. After the last Avengers movie I of course wanted to check out Black Widow. I am not wildly impressed by the story. However the art is pretty neat – very stretch like. It was enjoyable and entertaining, but it did not blow my socks off, though it did managed to surprise me which was of course nice.
It's okay. The art was fantastic, the story fell a little short. It did leave in an interesting note, so hopefully they explore that next.
I went into this knowing Black Widow only from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and this felt really easy to jump into. The main draw for me was the art but I can’t help but be intrigued by the (until recently) only woman on the Avengers. Noto’s art is very digital but so skillful. The shapes and brushstrokes are obviously from Photoshop and a Wacom tablet but unlike anything that I could do, they are made with a skilled hand. It feels like he’s sculpting with the digital paint. It sets a tone of minimalistic yet precise espionage.
I really enjoyed the pacing in this. It reminds me of Hawkeye in a way, perhaps because this is supposed to be her everyday life even though it seems quite similar to her work-life that we see in the movies. There are no wisecracks like Hawkeye but the panels don’t feel overcrowded with words and action similar to Hawkeye.
I’ll definitely read more.

Wow, I'm having trouble articulating how much I love this comic. The art and coloring are drop dead gorgeous. The storyline is a familiar redemption arc (I was in love with Rurouni Kenshin for a solid decade of my life, yo), but with so many layers of heart and feeling that I eat it up like spider candy. Thank God, Cthulhu, and the Flying Spaghetti Monster that the authors are serious about making this title really about Natasha in all her femme glory. She is professional; she is deadly; she thinks she is cold; she has a big, big heart. She loves and fights with the best of them because she is the actual best.
I want to start a drinking game where readers take a sip every time there's a spider joke and I also vote Natasha to be Queen of My Life. Yep. I'm falling hard and fast for this series, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to up their awesome points by over 9,000.

4.5* - very good first collection. Not my favourite art-style but works well and suits the story. Looking forward to volume two.
Likes: the art style is interesting and different, the muted color palate and soft details lend themselves well to Natasha. I think Natasha's character is strong here, emphasizing her spy tactics and solitary life.
Dislikes: the storyline felt more like a series of short disconnected events, with an overarching grand mystery (to be concluded as the series progresses) thrown in toward the end.
Overall glad to add to my collection and continue with the series.

3.5 stars. Natasha gets to shine and does what she does best. The storyline threads are interesting and weave a complicated web of intrigue and deceit. Not everything is as it seems, it's the business of spying at its best. I am definitely reading the next volume soon.
