A week before, I decided to read two books simultaneously to push my reading limits a little further. So I decided to choose fiction and non-fiction. I chose to take on Sapiens in the non-fiction category. And for fiction, I tried going back to [a:Taylor Jenkins Reid|6572605|Taylor Jenkins Reid|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1645653842p2/6572605.jpg] or [a:Colleen Hoover|5430144|Colleen Hoover|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1464032240p2/5430144.jpg] (they are my recent favourite, anytime go-to authors! ). Out of the blue, somewhere on google, searching for something, I got a recommendation for “The Omen” movie, and I couldn’t get over it. So I started my research and figured there’s a book about it. And next thing I was in my room, pacing through the pages of [b:The Omen|226162|The Omen|David Seltzer|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1421963974l/226162._SY75_.jpg|219058] whilst the soundtrack of the same movie accompanied me through the first 50 pages. (I like to create an ambience)
.
Don’t get tired of me saying that all the books are stunning. Because it just happens to be so with all the books I’ve read in recent times. Like I said, “The Omen” is a well-written, haunting and perfectly executed novel than the movie (Trust me, the movie is a disaster). The Omen starts with a superb prologue where it gives us a sense of curiosity about what the story is going to be, which involves stars colliding, a jackal giving birth to satan (in the form of a child), and incidents happening to establish that the antichrist has stepped into this world. Then the story starts with a man adopting a child who’s born at the same time when his child was born and announced dead. The family leads a good time with the adopted child until things start to go south when their maid commits suicide, and the new maid enters their home to take care of the child. Incidents happening after that were chilling, captivating and horrifying.
.
When it comes to Hollywood horror flick, all the ritual kinds of stuff, satan concepts, everything comes from their religious ideology, and pretty much most of the concept revolves around the same devil haunting things and humans. But this one had a different approach (a different concept of Satan stuff, to be precise). I loved every single chapter and how it kept me hooked. This was my second horror flick after “The Exorcist”, and as the book said, it kept me haunted and never disappointed me ( I’m much tempted to make a movie out of it right now). If you loved “The Exorcist” then this one’s for you. "The Omen" is a “must-read” horror novel to get haunted.

"For everything Holy, there is something unholy. This is the essence of temptation."
I cannot for the life of me watch horror without sacrificing sleep for a week. I thought digesting it via audiobook would be less terrifying. No. Bad idea.

Moderate: Death, Miscarriage, Suicide
One of the least graphic horror books I’ve ever read but about 20x more disturbing than most I’ve read.
It didn’t have to go into detail.
It gave the facts.
My brain filled in the rest.
So disturbing!

I’ve had this book forever and I finally decided to pick it up for a reading challenge. Even though I am a self described horror nerd I have never seen the film adaptations, though of course I know the gist. Damien…Son of Satan…weird nanny shit…blah blah blah. This book dragged so much through the middle. OMG! I contemplated DNF’ing it because of repetition and straight up boringness. And the wife…ugh! I hated her! Actually, I didn’t connect with any of the characters except for the two “servants,” Mr and Mrs Horton, but they just disappeared somewhere along the way and it was never really explained. A lot of descriptions of animal death throughout which also sucked. All of the buildup, this long boring buildup, and the payoff was extremely disappointing. The two stars are for the Hortons.
