Thinner

Stephen King, Richard Bachman

All it took was a touch on the cheek and one seemingly harmless word, "Thinner."

This book took me by surprise. While I wouldn't really classify it as horror, but the creepy factor did rear its delightful head every once in a while.

The characters in this book were so realistic and well rounded. I really loved how King could amplify those harmless little embers of hate that we so often brush off in our everyday lives, and spur them into raging, full blown towers of roaring flames.

The story line was quite enjoyable, though I could have enjoyed it more without the fruitless twists and turns - made me lose interest a couple of times. However, I did enjoy the story, overall. And that ending... Damn!

A highly recommended read!

DID NOT FINISH

I read most of this in Waterstones standing in one spot but I just didn't enjoy this. It's an interesting concept and I like the story if I'm honest, but the writing style isn't for me and it's not the type of horror I'm into. Not a terrible book but not my taste.

Fast and easy read. My first Stephen King book. It captivated me from the start, was a little slow in the middle and grabbed my attention again towards the end. I enjoyed the descriptive writing and the bleak ending.

This was really creepy. I haven't read a King book since Christine in high school and since I went in knowing the storyline, I wasn't shocked. But with this one, I went in totally blind and it was a nice ride. I was anxious and worried for Bill throughout, I grew fond of Ginelli and also was grateful that he believed in and helped Bill, and was scared of what Lemke would do. The ending, honestly pissed me off BUT also made sense.
I see why King is the king of horror.

Probably the best of the Bachman books up to this point in his chronology. I liked this book, thought it was a good ride and appreciated the fact that King actually mentioned himself in the texts, willingly allowing the public to FINALLY realize it was him behind the pen here.

For kids of the 80s and 90s you have probably seen the adaptation and I would say, it is pretty good but the book is definitely better. Not much to report on here the summary is relatively simple: A man is cursed by a gypsy after killing his daughter by vehicular manslaughter and withers away...

There is for sure a whole lot more including one weird Tony Soprano esque character but overall if you like King's work this is on the lighter side with a deep(ish) plot. The ending made the book for me.
