Another edge of your seat, heart wrenching installment in the Thezmarr series. CANNOT wait for the next one.

The first series was a fantasy story with a romance plot line.  This series is an angsty romance novel in a fantasy setting.

I'm really not enjoying this as much as Legends of Thezzmar.  This book felt like it was all angst for the sake of angst and very little actual plot.  It doesn't help that we have the dreaded martyr complex in both the FMC and the MMC.  I had hoped that the angst wouldn't be an drug out as it was, but it seems I was wrong.   I'll probably give these one more shot when book three eventually comes out, but so far, this series has been a big let down compared to the previous one.

Book 1 left me so unwell I went and read the entire Legends of Thezmarr books and novellas (I hadn't read them before) and then, armed with that amazing story, I re-read Iron & Embers and immediately, at 12:36 am, started Thorns & Fire. While I am doing better at the end of this than I&E, I am still reeling from the depth and complexity of the story. I saw the ending barreling towards me, but even then, I wasn't prepared for it. I adore this world, this couple, their found family, the complexity of their world, and even the stupid politics. Book 3 cannot come fast enough. Any complaints or issues are minimal because the story just draws you in completely, and I am surprised when I'm interrupted that I am in a modern house wearing shorts and not a dress with a dagger and potions in my pocket. And dang it, where is my Warsword?

Helen Scheuerer is always writing amazing books with such a good balance between romance and plot. I couldn’t put the book down. I read it on my breaks at work, before bed, while eating breakfast. Needless to say that it was an easy 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I absolutely adore Torj and Wren and I can’t wait to read the next book!
