Loved the book, but I felt it could have been longer. Things were resolved pretty quickly.

This book is the embodiment of a contented sigh, of a bowl of ice cream on a summer day, of watching a sunset from your porch, of lazy, lovely days that are simple but still beautiful and wonderful.

My chest felt like it was filled with nothing but sunlight and memories of summers as a teenager and it felt like the closest thing to bottled happiness I could ever experience. Between this and Katie McGarry's Nowhere But Here I've definitely filled a worthwhile quota of wonderful lazy summer day books.

The writing style was very simple but often managed to be the craft of fantastic metaphors, unforgettable descriptions, and luscious words that made me feel like I was wrapped up in a beautiful world and sitting on a porch swing, just enjoying life and the strange and wondrous things it can bring.

The narrator, Rebecca Lowman, often made me feel safe and warm, like I was enjoying a treat each time I went for a drive with this playing on my stereo. I even went for a long drive late last night just so I could listen for longer and just circle around the city.

Overall: this book is the loveliest thing I've encountered in a long time and it's definitely going to be joining the books on my shelf that I love the most.

I belong to some online book clubs, and one reader described these kinds of books as “palate cleansers.” That seems kind of right, but I prefer the French term:
“Amuse Bouche” - fun mouth. It’s fun and tasty, not meant to be the main meal, but perfect for a light getaway between longer novels. It also follows a familiar pattern: character returns to old hometown and rediscovers themselves and happiness. This one has a bit of mystical happenings thrown in for just the icing on the cake. I do recommend if you need a break between other things.

I just loved this book. It's short, and I easily finished it in a day - well, I stayed up late to do it, but it was still in a day. I just couldn't put it down! While parts are predictible, it was a light hearted read and one that drew me into it within the first few pages. I rated it more of a 3, because it's not quite the same literary quality that I would rate higher, but if I categorized and rated on light hearted reads? It would be a 4...

The author does an amazing job with character development. You are instantly transported into what I envision is the south - that of deep rooted beliefs and not so easily forgotten transgressions. You can easily imagine the "we do what we've always done because that's who we are" mentality that stretches through this small town.

While I am not much for "magic" sorts of things (other than Harry Potter, of course), the parts of this book that take on a fantasy element just add a special quality - like it's something that would happen in this time, in this place. It made me want to go out and dance with fireflies and laize about in a big Adirondack chair on a summer night with a big glass of lemondade. Romantic in a sense, but not just the characters - the entire setting, the entire moment in time, the essence of it all.

EASY EASY read, and just put me in the best mood! :)

Really good read, with a great look at how people really act and react to life.
