God I love women. The intense infatuation Carmilla had towards Laura was evident, and so was Lauren’s clueless Father. I like how the big reveal was because of a grieving Father, willing to challenge everything logical and holy for the sake of vengeance. I originally thought Carmilla’s motivation for targeting all these women was out of possessiveness for Laura but I’m not sure how I feel who it it being the same. But it does say how lonely Carmilla might have been, and her desire for companionship and intimacy. Plus being close friends with these women was a good cover story for lesbianism. I’m not normally a classic reader but this was easy to read and enjoyable. I honestly just wish it was longer. The ending was definitely open, despite the very gruesome ending of Carmilla. Which I disliked because it happened all so fast with finding her tomb and knowing how to kill her. Also how Laura had no say, but just in shock in realising what had happened to her. Her betrayal was clear and she sort of just let the General and her Father take care of it. I did love how it was her narrating.

The prose is very dated as expected. The story line felt as if it was not developing. I found myself trying to pull the characters out of what little detail was given in what was happening in the book. I may have better enjoyment in experiencing this as an audiobook.
