Hoo boy, this was a doozy.

I don't get all the negative reviews. This is by far the most suspenseful of the GR/AS books IMO, especially the last 1/4 or so of the book. Perhaps people are just getting fatigue? Don't know. I think CC did an awesome job with it.

And just when you think there's nothing to add to Gretchen's character, she pulls a number that makes you question her motivations all over again. I won't give away what happens, but even I was a little surprised.

Regarding Jack's house...you know it's real, right? Maybe not the tunnels, but the house and island are legit. I recall reading about it when it all went on sale a few years ago. CC read about it, too, and decided it would be awesome to kill someone in that house (she said so at an author event I attended for the release of book #5). I'm not sure if GR strips links from reviews, but in case it doesn't, you can see some photos of the island and exterior of the house here:

I was really worried that this would be the last in the series, but it sounds like it isn't. It's amazing that these books are so consistently entertaining. You'd think CC would run out of ideas, but nope. This is one nasty as hell book, but I loved it. Let's keep 'em coming.

Oh, and it's about time that
Archie and Susan start elevating the discourse, if you know what I mean
. That bit of story arc needed to progress.

It's a bit ridiculous how Gretchen is so perfect and brilliant and psychic and and and... But if you suspend that obnoxiery, this book is delightful. Entertaining and enthralling and a total page turner. Can't wait for the next one to come out!

Place your bets before openening as to the ways and means of Archie's torture, wounding and/or emotional abuse in this volume! Who had ripped aoart by wolves? SPOILER: Archie does not get ripped apart by wolves in this book! I say nothing, one way or the other, about pythons. Looking forward to the next instalment: Archie Gets Ripped Apart By Wolves.

Another fantastic installment in the Archie/Gretchen series. Devoured it all too quickly during many middle-of-the-night feedings with my newborn. Deliciously weird, hilarious, creepy, and, let's face it, kinda kinky. And I'm cool with that.

Realized part of why I love Cain's writing so much is that she accomplishes almost everything via descriptions of physical objects. It's odd, but it works. She uses people's attire, their attention to physical surroundings, and their personal belongings to accomplish a ton of character building. She never needs to tell you what people are feeling, because you understand it from observation alone. Really unique and skillful. Love it.

Well I have read (I think) the final book. I must say this was probably my least favourite book in the whole series. For me it had a different feel compared to the rest of the books. I didn’t like the beginning with the party. I felt it was pointless and had no real substance. I felt some of the scenes were a bit pointless and I could easily skim over them.
I don’t want this to be the end. The book is left open ended. Chelsea Cain give me more!
