Dang this one almost made me shed tears! I love seeing Lee and Gideon’s relationship progress and how they compliment each other so well.

With each of the books of this series the lyrical, atmospheric writing get you more and more deeply into the story. The supernatural permeates everything, sometimes subtly, sometimes not so much, but always there.

Here we have Gideon and Lee, one year into their marriage, learning to be fathers aside from husbands, when something heart-breaking happens. From there the story flows, unravelling the mysteries, introducing new characters while the old ones keep growing and the Bodmin's Beast growls.

I don't want this series end. NEVER.

 Audio review 2021

Rating stays the same as the audio rocks
I do so love how the guys really battered down the hatches and protected each other during this time. I still dislike Lee's sister and no matter that she did the right thing at the end, it will never make up for what she did.

I love this series.
Lee and Gideon are one of my all time favourite couples. Gideon has always been good at believing in and protecting Lee from overdoing it with his gifts and Lee has tried to protect Gideon from outside forces, but in this one we really see them protecting each other's emotions when their world falls apart and they are both suffering immense pain their first thoughts are to ease the suffering of the other.
Their relationship is so stable and they complement each other so well.
The paranormal aspects and how they are woven into each storyline are well done making it another enjoyable read.
Definitely recommend this whole series

This series gets better and better. This time the action is closer to home, with Gideon and Lee having to contend with crippling personal grief as well as brutal, gut wrenching murder.
What can possibly go wrong for them next?
Through it all, though, their bond is as strong, and stronger than ever. It really comes into its own in this story. Lee shows Gideon his world and the level-headed copper still manages to keep both feet planted firmly on the ground.

One of the better entries in the series and heartbreaking at times (although all ends well). I have read that this will be the final book in the series, but I hope that either that is incorrect or that Harper Fox will reconsider. Gideon and Lee are wonderful together and it has been a delight to see their relationship develop over the course of the five books and to get to know their family and friends.

I really REALLY loved this one. This is a series you need to read in order, to catch all the evolving characters. It's particularly critical for this installment.

Just wonderful. The fantastic elements, the town, its people, and the strife Gideon and Lee have to endure while trying to solve a murder may be the overt elements, but the underpinning of a place, a guardian, a psychic, a new element and a stolen child kept me riveted to this novel.

gosh.

that was an exciting bit o'business.

my word!

i was variously moved to tears, enraged by foolish white people, enraptured by lyrical prose, and tenderly nursing the sympathetic throbbing of the quite massively barren womb i'd grown in response to all the not-without-my-daughter escandalo up in hurr.

honestly the only thing missing was a chinchilla shifter—and by now i fully expect harper fox has one in store for me in the next installment.

i enjoyed this immensely.

CW: Adoption challenges

I’m horrified at everything having to do with the baby in this book. The mystery is about what you’d expect from this series, with the addition of an interesting new copper shoving his nose as deeply, ignorantly, and obliviously unfeelingly into everyone’s business as he can. The low rating is for the baby plot line and some of the most inappropriate sex ever. The fucking gall.
