I received this book free in a SavvyMom/Harper Collins Canada giveaway. This probably isn't a book I would have picked up on my own, but I really enjoyed it! The writing was great and the story definitely drew me in. When I got about 50 pages from the end, I basically told my kids to look after themselves because I needed to finish! I thought the characters and relationships in the book were genuine and believable. I did guess the outcome somewhat, but I don't think that detracted from the story or the reading experience. I will definitely seek out more books from this author since I very much enjoyed this debut!

I have a copy of this book if any friends would like to borrow it...

I'm not sure which list I found this book on, but I'm glad I did. A beautifully written story about the love/hate relationship between two sisters. I highly recommend it.

Loved this book! Full of suspense and intrigue. Raced through it because I wanted to know what happened. A sad yet also uplifting story.

A novel about sisters who were estranged.... The way we gradually discover where the fault lines are is well handled, and the characters have enough depth to be interesting. The story opens when the responsible older sister, Kate, hears of Mia's death, possible suicide, in Bali and is told through both points of view - with Mia's being told partly in diary form. The complexity of that narrative structure is handled well, and does not intrude. More psychological than thriller, though, and the ending a bit too predictable, and safe.

Full of selfish and annoying characters. I really did not like this and was very disappointed.

This is the story of sisters. This is the story of lies, half-truths, betrayal, rejection, lost love, and discovering one’s self. When 24-year-old Mia sets off for an around the world adventure with her best friend, her older sister Katie is angry. Mia was always running away when Katie needed her. But Mia’s untimely & tragic death while traveling hits Katie like a strike of lightning. There are so many unanswered questions. Too many. Katie finds Mia’s travel journal and makes the bold step of recreating Mia’s journey, across continents and oceans to discover how she could have lost her sister. The answers Katie finds are rarely the ones she wants, but she also discovers something unexpected…herself.

This was a good story. I enjoyed the POV shifts from Mia to Katie with each chapter, giving deeper insight into each character. I felt some of the big secrets were a little obvious from the beginning, but overall, it was a story that held my attention and kept me going until the end.
