- Emily -
I have only love and admiration for this book and the whole world Heather Fawcett has created! I love the characters, especially Emily being not the typical main character, but a truly unique and fascinating person. The story keeps being interesting and we learn more and more about different cultures and folklore. This time even in my home country Austria. I really enjoyed this little fact. Many knew characters appeared, but it always goes back to the ones from the first book, too. And the relationship between Emily and Wendell is just perfect and lovely! Emily is growing!!

Ugh... I am absolutely in love with this world, I'll admit it. The one thing that I missed (comparing the first book to this one) was the lack of relationship building between Emily & Crew with the villagers.
Other than that, I fucking love Shadow, I love Poe, I even love Snowbell - that little freak - and I know I'll be falling in love with Orga shortly. If you like anything to do with faeries and whimsical forests, you gooootta read it. You gotta. So excited for the third book.

I like this one more than the first book. In this second book we following the journey of Emily helping Wendell to find his door to his realm. But, there's a challenge here. It's not an easy journey, because his stepmother chasing them.
I love how it ended, actually this book is not too different with the first one. Because, once again, she "trapped" in faerie realm. But, this time, she gets in on purpose. I love how she's outsmarting his stepmother to escape.
And we got two new characters who follow Emily's journey. Ariadne, her niece. And Rose. At first I thought, Rose will have something planned. I forget this is a cozy fantasy book, so there's no so much conflict in it.
I dont know what else to say in here, i just really enjoyed this book. It has a very very very long chapter but i didn't find it boring maybe because i read it while listening to the audiobook. The narrators is really great. I love the way they're telling the story.

I don’t think I liked this book as much as I loved the first in the series. I love the banter between Emily & Wendell, but his parts were lacking due to a major plot point. I didn’t feel nearly as charmed by the faeries of the inhabitants of St. Liesel as I did the villagers of Hrafnsvik, and the Danielle de Grey / Eichorn story fell relatively flat for me. Overall, the story was still enchanting and I am very interested in seeing what they get up to in the 3rd book.

Emilys Geschichte ist sehr unterhaltsam. Trotz der vielen beunruhigenden Momente bleibt sie unterhaltsam. Als Person aus Österreich irritierten mich leider die Orts- und Personennamen.

The first book was so wonderful it seems it’s a tough act to follow. This one felt like it took a while to start even while events were happening, and the dynamics with the new characters didn’t quite land for me. But I still love the world and every page with main character interactions were golden (maybe that’s why; these seemed few and far between? and summarized quickly in between long stretches of exploring?).
I think the plot of this one would have been delivered outside the epistolary format, but I still enjoyed myself and look forward to reading the next one.
