The best way to spoil a movie is to read its book! :D
I loved watching the movie, which made me decide to read the book. But man! The story has more plausibility and the characters are well developed. A pretty simple story, easy to read with a bunch of lovable characters. Sophie and Howl are just adorable :)

Somewhat different from the film, but it was still an enjoyable read.

Howl's Moving Castle is the kind of book I would have loved when I was a kid. I wish I could go back in time and give it to child me since he would appreciate it more than I did. And the truth is that I'm a decade (and a bit) older than the intended audience, which doesn't hurt the book too much. This book is clever enough, with unique characters, that I think a lot of people of any ages can enjoy it.

The best part of the book are the characters, especially Howl and Sophie. There is a charm and humour that envelops the book and makes it a very entertaining read. The story is clever, and the world is interesting enough to work. But the best part is Sophie who is convincing as well as very entertaining to read about.

The plot is charming, comedic, and even occasionally surprising. It seems odd to me that most of the original, exciting fantasy being written is being written for children and not adults. This is a perfect example of that since this book plays with fantasy tropes effectively and introduces very memorable characters into an entertaining story.

I originally gave this four stars, but the story and characters have not left my mind since I read it so I'm adding one. Sophie, Calcifer, and Howl are characters who have stuck in my mind, and I am very grateful to [a:Diana Wynne Jones|4260|Diana Wynne Jones|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1193516584p2/4260.jpg] for introducing me to them.

While I started reading this book with some clear expectations and a very set outlook because I have watched the movie several times, I was very surprised and delighted to read this amazing story. While Studio Ghibli gave it life in the big screen, Diana had a different direction of how this story would be told. Some were definitely more gruesome than others whilst some parts of the book were left out of the movie. I enjoyed hunting for the differences between both and would recommend them to anyone.
