This is every bit as good as the descriptions make it sound, if not better. It looks great, eso the visual effects in The Quiet. It's also tremendously funny while also serious at times? Weird. Fraction and Zdarsky work amazingly well together.
Suzie thinks she is a regular girl, living a normal life with typical teenage problems, but she has a very unique gift; when she has an orgasm time stops for a while. She calls this ‘The Quiet’; it is a time where she reflects on her life and the world without any interruptions. She can do anything and it soon becomes a solitude for her to escape the world around her. After having sex at a party she soon discovers her gift in not so unique, she finds herself in ‘The Quiet’ with her recent sexual partner Jon.
The two become close as they discuss their shared ability; no longer are they the only one that can stop time. As you can imagine they have so many questions but both are still trying to work out mysteries of this power. As they spend more time together, eventually they decide they could use this ability for personal gain. They can freeze time and rob a bank; there would be no one to stop them, or so they think.
I first discovered Matt Fraction when I read Hawkeye: My Life as a Weapon and find his writing style appealing. He explores the more human side of a superhero or one with the ability to stop time. Sex Criminals had gotten a lot of good reviews and it sounded wacky enough to try. It is a bawdy and brazen sex comedy with a rather dated aesthetics. Artist Chip Zdarsky really brings a very seventies vibe into the graphic novel. The fashion and hair remind me of the era and ‘The Quiet’ has a technicolour vibe to it.
I suspect they (Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky) are paying homage to the 70′s as an era of free love and sexual freedom or they are both products of that generation. Either way, it seems to work well with the story. Sex Criminals is a rather odd series but I do enjoy the way it explores the world of these characters through sex and stopping time. It is pushing the boundaries of the comic world, exploring real life people and sexuality in a superhero kind of way. It did earn a banning from the Apple store for its efforts but was also named one of Time Magazine’s top 10 graphic novels for 2013.

I wanted to like this book. The artwork was nice and the premise not bad. I am not a prude so the sex stuff didn't weird me out. However, I think the story was lacking and it just wasn't for me. I doubt I will be continuing on with this series. There are other graphic novels out there I would rather read.
This is one of the best things I have ever read! Sex Criminals tells the story of Suzie and Jon who can stop time when they have sex and so decide to use this special super power to rob a bank. Now bare with me. This is more than a funny book with a quirky premise.
When I first picked it up I thought, if nothing else, it would be a good laugh (I had been hearing a lot of good things about it). And it was funny, incredibly funny in fact. But I wasn't prepared for how real and thoughtful the characters and the story would be. Jon and Suzie feel like real every day people! I was instantly invested in their story and their relationship.
This comic talks about sex and sexuality (from both the male and female perspective) in an intelligent and realistic way, managing to be both heart felt as well as funny. Readers have connected with these characters, hearing about their experiences growing up, and this has lead to a letter column which feels more like a community than fan mail.
The art world is stunning. The people in it are attractive but also look like real people! There are so many jokes hidden on each page I laughed so loud at times that other people in the house got worried. And the colors really bring the book to life.

This is it. This is the book that makes me regret giving out five stars willy -nilly. If I had more stars, I would enthusiastically consent to their place in this review. PERFECT.
Two people meet and find out they share a unique talent for stopping time when they have an orgasm. The story is amusing but the writing can either entertain you or irritate the reader depending on how much in flashbacks and breaking the fourth wall you can stand. The story arc leaves Suzie and Jon finding out they are not alone in their powers and on the run. An amusing story but may not be for everyone with either the plot device or the writing style.

a re read but I hate the title of this so very much
There's not much I can say without giving anything away, and part of its delight is being able to read it going in blind. I will say that I love Suzie, I will follow her story anywhere, and the art is rich with small details, like little easter eggs, and the story is surprising in where it takes you.
Well-written with beautiful art, but the story didn't especially grab me. Relies more on character development and strong dialogue, focusing less on developing the actual plot.
