a fun book, and super nostalgic for me :) 3 stars might seem low but it was genuinely enjoyable and a nice revisit to a series i used to cherish

First impressions: Man, this book is DARK. Way darker than I anticipated. Perhaps the gorgeous cover should have clued me in, since it is kind of spooky beautiful, but I wasn't really prepared for how awful the fairies were going to be in this story, particularly right off the bat.

Lasting impressions: I can't tell if I should be frustrated with Melissa Marr or celebrating her genius. The only reason I didn't like this book was because I didn't want Aislinn to have to make the choices she did. She was put in an impossibly unfair predicament, and I didn't want her to be in it, so I got really angry with the book. Frustrating to read? Yes, but it also provoked some strong emotions and I obviously connected with the characters, so well done Ms. Marr. Well played.

Conflicting impressions: Though I didn't have as strong feelings about Keenan as did Aylee, I definitely agree that he is a pompous ass who would never deserve Aislinn in a million years. Many of the characters in this book were not likable, which contributed to the dark aspects I enjoyed, but it sure made it hard to read sometimes.

Overall impressions: I agonized over whether to give this book 2, 3, or 4 stars. I really liked Aislinn (Ash), even though I don't know how to pronounce her name, and absolutely adored Seth. Sure he's a bit of a man slut, but he's hopelessly devoted to Ash and I want to steal him away and have all of his babies. And I hate babies.

Besides Seth, I also really liked Donia, the Winter Girl who must help Keenan find his Summer Queen. As much as Seth loves Ash, so does Donia love Keenan. And just as Ash is put in a hopeless position, so is Donia. She loves Keenan, but must help him find his queen so he can resume the throne. That queen was supposed to be her, but it's not, and that's a tough pill to swallow.

On the sidelines is Beira, the Winter Queen, and Keenan's mother. She's pretty much pure evil, and tries to convince Donia to save her own life and betray Keenan in the process. Seriously, everyone in this book is stuck between a rock and a hard place. I so wanted to throw this book across the room, except in my case that would also mean throwing my Kindle around, and I've really been trying to avoid that.

Needless to say, the tension is amazing. Marr really knows how to build the plot, piece by piece, in such a way that you can't help but finish it off. Her characters are likewise carefully constructed and fully developed. I found everything about the book compelling, and my only reservations are based on my gut reactions to the people and actions involved.

While the characters had to make tough choices, it also rang true to life. We don't always get what we want, and when things change it's usually impossible to get them back to the way they used to be. I loved that Marr didn't hand anything over easily and made the characters work to find their own solutions. Even though the process frustrated me as a reader, it made a great story, and for that reason I look forward to reading the next books.

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I'm a big fantasy reader, but I've never really been into faery stories; however, Melissa Marr has such a natural storytelling voice that I couldn't help getting sucked in. Her characters are interesting and believable, and the story itself is magical and identifiable all at the same time. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down - I had to know what was going to happen! - I almost broke my own rule and skipped to the end just to find out. :)

Wasn't as good as I would have liked. The only great part of the book was Seth! :-) he makes the read worth it and I can't wait to see what is in store for him.

DNF at 38%. Dear god, this book sucked. I love fae YA books. I grew up reading them and I still enjoy them even today. I am also a sucker for a good trashy, supernatural YA novel. This book does not even deserve to be called trashy. I cannot explain just how paper-thin these characters' personalities are and how truly bored I was having to read about them. The fae universe just felt so flimsy and non-magical, and after a couple chapters I realized I did not care how the book ended as long as it ended. Which told me it was time to put the book down and find something else more enjoyable.
mysterious medium-paced

I didn't know if I would enjoy this book, as I haven't read anything with Faries in it before. But I did enjoy the book. It was well written, and I really liked the characters. My favorite character would have to have been Seth. I liked Aislynn's character pretty much. I'm a little undecided on Keenans character.

I liked the ending of the book... how Aislynn stood her ground and didn't give in. She knew what she wanted, and wen't right for it. I'm looking forward to reading Fragile Eternity to see what happens next. :)

It was okay. Characters could’ve definitely used more substance. Especially Seth. Seemed like he was there purely to act as a barrier between the two MCs. Didn’t really do much besides exist. Pretty good first introduction to high fey, though. Was only slightly confusing and the excerpts at he beginning of each chapter helped clear fog and set the tone for each chapter

I have wanted to read Wicked Lovely for couple years now. However, I always ended up reading something else. I finally checked the novel from library and couldn’t be happier that I did, it was unlike any other faery book that I read. Even thought it started out little slow for me, it picked up after couple pages. Afterwards, I was sucked into the story, making me wonder what was going to happen next. I was glad that I came across this series, and can’t wait what happens with all of characters in the next book.

Don’t Stare at invisible faeries
Don’t talk to invisible faeries
Don’t attract faerie’s attention

Those were the rules that Aislinn was taught by her grandmother from early page, the only mortal that could see them. All her life, that is what Ash had done, to avoid them and pretend as if they didn’t exist, and try to lead a normal life. Aislinn had seen it all, seen what faeries can do and the glamour they wear, when trying to blend in as humans. Nothing surprised her about them, that till they start breaking the rules.

Aislinn starts getting anxious when two faeries Donia and Keenan who is Summer King, start following her everywhere. To make things worse, other faeries seems to follow their pattern. Aislinn goes against her grandmother’s rule and tells Seth about them, who tries to help her figure a way to get rid of them. Once Aislinn finds out that she’s Keenan’s Summer Queen, she gets even more anxious, not wanting anything to do with that.

Aislinn does everything she can, to avoid Keenan, to let him know that she is not interested, soon to find that he is not going give up that easily, especially when he glamour’s as human, enrolling in her school. Aislinn soon realizes that she is becoming one of them, as much as she wants to deny it. Will she be able to accept, and to leave everyone she loves behind?

Wicked Lovely was filed with a lot of action, adventure and Mystery, it was unlike other books I read and it was worth the read. I loved Seth and Ash right from beginning; I could tell that there was an attraction, chemistry between the two of them from start. I defiantly could tell that Seth cared about Ash from moment he asked her what was bothering her, he was worried and I knew that it wasn’t because she was his friend but because he cared about her, more than a friend.

To be honest, Keenan wasn’t my favorite person from very beginning, not only wouldn’t he leave Aislinn alone but also what he did to Donia, way he hurt her, I disliked him for that reason. He grew on me by end of the book thought. Even though he wasn’t my favorite person, I loved the scenes between him and Donia, there always seemed so much passion between the two of them, I could tell that he really cared for her, the way he wanted to protect her, from him mother I had a feeling he still loved her. By the end, where she had leave and he didn’t want her to go, I knew for fact that he loved her. I actually felt heartbroken for him.

This novel had nonstop action, I found myself rooting for characters, and wanting some characters gone like Winter Queen. I can’t wait to see what happens next, with Ash, Seth, Keenan and Donia. I’m kind of curious how Seth & Ash will make this relationship worth and how Ash will handle all the power she has now.
