i love u keenan

Different, funny, entertaining! I hope she writes more, but I am happy with it being a stand alone novel as well (so rare these days that things aren't in a series!)

i'm not big on fantasy...picked this up because it was a 2008 rita and to see how it compared to some other popular fantasy flying off the library shelves these days...i must say it was really good...it read really quickly too

As far as young adult books go, this one is most certainly worth reading. Although, I hesitate to agree that it should be classified as a young adult book. I would comfortably say fifteen and up (as a blanket, over-generalization).

The dark, ethereal tone throughout the book is well set and gently reminded. I loved the feeling that this book captures. The characters seem to fit in and around the world well, producing a cohesive picture. The heroine is definitely a personal favorite. Aislinn is well written and well developed. Unlike many authors, Melissa Marr does a good job portraying her as shy, but not as a weak, fragile thing. The girl grows and comes into her own. My favorite character in the book has to be Seth though. Alluring, charming and an over-all gentleman.

The biggest hindrance I had with giving this book five stars was the repetition. Easily, 100 pages of this book could have been removed because of how often Marr repeats the overarching dilemma. As a reader, I am there from beginning to end. I know what the issue is because I have witnessed everything. There is no need to repeat oneself over and over for the readers benefit.

As for the ending, it seemed to wrap things up in a pleasing way. It could have been a stand-alone book and done well. I do, however, look forward to continuing the story.

My only complaint is the writing. Marr's writing needs to improve quite a bit for this to reach five stars, but otherwise I loved the story and I enjoyed the characters. Very fun, getting the sequel from the library ASAP.

I really enjoyed this book. I don't know about anybody else, but I loved how Seth and Aislinn ended up together. I got so scared that the author was going to kill him off when he was captured by Beira. But, thankfully she didn't. I wasn't super happy that Donia ended up as the Winter Queen but I was happy that she didn't die. And when I think about it more it isn't that bad because at least Keenan and Donia both know that they both love each other. Overall, I think this book was definitely a 5-star book, without a doubt!

I really liked this book. I loved the characters and how the ending parings ended up. But, I like that the romance was not the focus of the book. I mean, the story couldn't have held up without the romance, but it was not a romance book. :)
adventurous mysterious medium-paced

Liked this more than I thought I would. I found the characters interesting (I could have done with a little more background/coloring across the board), and the concept of the game was intriguing. I also really enjoyed the central romance, which I thought was very romantic, in both a old and new fashioned way.
