Dark and enchanting. This book surprised me. Amid a small, town that didn't particularly light up, with unique characters, Fey roam about. I found it refreshing. I really like Ash and Seth how they don't fall for the magic and sparkles, though these fey are more icy and cold. The romance between them makes me hold my breath. Just super sweet.
Now, while this book was sweet, I'm not running out and buying the rest of the series. It was an entertaining read, but I can't say I'm obsessed. If I come across the next ones then awesome, otherwise I'm just adding it to the bottom of my list of series to read.

I like how it ended even though it was all la-de-da everyone gets their way...fo r now. It still didn't end typically for me. For instance seth is still human! anyway cute book not great but cute. O and I so did not see that bit about her mom coming at all!
Bir kitabın tadı var mıdır? Var ki şu an onu sevdiğimi söyleme üzereyim. Çok fazla YA ama seride beni kendisine çeken bir şeyler var. Perilerdir belki de...
You know, this book snapped me up. It was very easy to get into, which had been my problem lately. Nothing like what I usually read, but fast-paced and storyline is intriguing enough to want to see what happens in the next book.
This was just okay. There were some interesting pieces and some different twists in this urban fairy tale, but I felt the characters were rather flat and lacked sufficient depth. Melissa Marr does have some good writing skills so I won't throw her out entirely because I think she shows a lot of promise.
Aislinn's pierced and tattooed, eternallu patient mortal boyfriend is the best character by far. Donia, the Winter Girl, Keenan's rejected true love is also very intriguing. Marr's story weaves between the mortal realm and the faerie world. Aislinn is aggressive, demanding, forthright, and modern, in spite of all of her fears and uncertainties. Her calm, in tense situations with the court and in her daily struggles to ignore the faeries, is admirable
This book snuck up on me, I picked it out not thinking of it much but ended up enjoying it immensely. Set in this world with the faerie crashing down, I grew to want to know what happened to the characters.
I picked this up when Amazon touted it as a Twilight readalike, and I drooled -- a lot -- over the gorgeous cover. I found the premise intriguing: 17-year-old modern girl Aislinn is pursued by the faery king Keenan, who has been searching 900 years for the mortal girl who will be his queen. But he gets more than he bargained for: the reader knows from the get-go that Aislinn has the Sight and has been able to see faeries all her life, and knows their vicious nature (no Tinkerbells here). Also, she's already got a mortal boy, Seth, in love with her.
So, in spite of all this promise, I was a little disappointed. This was a potentially tasty story that took too long to get going, then did too much telling and not enough showing. I found myself able to see the great story, but wishing it was told by Libba Bray or Francesca Lia Block. Still, it's Melissa Marr's first book, and I'd definitely keep an eye on her. This is a good urban fairy tale with a dark setting and a love triangle to tantalize those Edward-or-Jacob followers. Which is better: a pierced and tattooed human totally devoted to protecting you from evil fairies, or a glowing, powerful faery king who has been waiting nine centuries to make you a queen? It's a dilemma that kept me from abandoning this book.
