Very charming story. It has a few odd plot movements that jump quickly. I enjoyed the story but I did find that I had to pay more attention while reading than most books. I love a good twist but this book has more sharp turns than twists. It does not take from the story but it does make it a more challenging read for me personally.

Margaret Rogeraon is a master at writing forbidden love!
Isobel is a skilled painter in the summer court of Whimsy, who paints portraits for the Fae in exchange for enchantments that make her life easier and safer for her and her family. The Fae value human craft because they can't create anything (writing, painting ect) without dying.
A prince of the Autumn lands, Rook, comes to her for a portrait and Isobel's life is a whirlwind of change, and they break the one law that the fae have— never fall in love.
This book is so good! I loved every second of it and loathed putting it down. I highly recommend it to fantasy romance lovers!

I was a little worried about this plot as a stand alone but it worked wonderfully! This is such an interesting plot and world. I didn't get lost at all even though I was quickly learning a whole new world and it's rules. I didn't want to put it down. Definitely recommend to anyone that likes Fae books.

Started this off this book as an audiobook back in May last year apparently but only picked it up again as an e-book this year, in May again funnily enough! It was a nice quick read. I liked the dialogue between the two main characters but to be honest didn't find them too likable and it was a bit difficult to sympathise with either of them, which lead to their whole love story falling flat for me. I didn't find it very believable. It had that typical old fae flair which to me is always a bit more distant, reserved and less emotional. I don't know if that makes sense to anyone but it does to me 😂 And to a very highly emotional individual like me, such storylines are hard to get into completely and fall in love with them. Regardless it was a fun read! ✨
