Take a photo of a barcode or cover
I've been reading books about or by transgender individuals because I want to think about how life is for them because I'm not encountering them in my daily life. My hope is that it helps me be a compassionate caregiver to future patients. That said my ability to use the correct pronoun verb combination will probably lead to many errors on my part.
One scenario from the book has stayed with me... Jenny leaves a bar and a guy harasses her... She's frustrated and appalled by the situation. I'm not sure if she realizes that she has absolutely been accepted as a female by experiencing this situation. It sucks that there are people who decide what they deserve no matter how it makes the second person feel... But how else do you explain the existence of the #metoo movement? The author never returned to say that her evolution into a woman would bring undesirable consequences... Maybe it just takes time to realize some of this.

Hopeful, inspiring, sad, touching, funny -- Boylan's story covers every emotion as she shares her transition journey. I am grateful to Boylan for giving me a deeper understanding and appreciation for the humans who have gone through this, for giving me the emotional tools to support anyone I know who might go through this in the future. Highly recommend the audio version, which makes the storytelling feel more personal.

This is excellent - just so well-written. Boylan is, by trade, a creative writing professor and a humorous fiction writer - and it is sometimes funny. Also made me cry - several times. Compulsively readable.
Jenny Boylan leads us through her life, up to and including her gender reassignment surgery in 2001, with authenticity and humor. Could have been a little tighter had it been edited down a little bit, but I still enjoyed the time I spent with her.
