Really useful book about classroom management; plenty of ideas I’ll try to implement now or at some point.

Audiobook. I nibbled away at this for several months & found it interesting. It can be a bit repetitive here & there, but there is an awful lot of very good basic how-to in here along with some general practical advice. I suspect that newer teachers may appreciate this more than more experienced teachers, but I was grateful for the tune-up. I think my favourite parts were the metaphors that Bennett used to explain why classroom management strategies are so important. My biggest concern is that someone without experience could easily take some of this to extremes, despite Bennett’s regular exhortations to know & respect the students.

Clear and practical advice on classroom management, although it could do with being more concise.

I listened to this book via @Libro.fm's ALC program for educators. While I do think it was a little long and could have been edited down a bit, it is a great reminder of the importance of having systems for behavior and how to fix common mistakes that many teachers make. He definitely makes a convincing case for why structure and discipline is worth creating in a classroom, even when it feels hard to create and maintain.

There was some good information about classroom management in this book, but a lot of it felt very punitive. The book really stressed strictness and giving student consequences- I little more than I prefer in my teaching style. And these themes were hammered home in a way that got to be repetitive. Nevertheless, there were some good reminders about explicitly teaching and maintaining high expectations in your classroom.
