I was surprised by this book. It is not what I thought it would be like. I ended up enjoying it very much.

Picked up at Friends of the Library book sale. Good thing it was cheap. I liked the setting and loved the quilting stuff, but the characters were flat or unlikeable. Especially the main character. As another reviewer said, "with all her self doubts and judgmental attitudes. She needs to grow a spine and get over herself."

I've read a couple other books by this author in the past (I think they were earlier works) and don't remember disliking them so much.

I enjoyed learning more about Hawaii. Bonnie's ex-husband's cruelty, violence and threats scared me.

Borrowed on Hoopla through JCPL.

Listening length: nine hr, 57 min

This story takes place in a whole different setting. New characters that we can fall in love with. I met the author and had her sign my copy.

The Aloha Quilt
Have liked this series book after book. Love how the quilts tell the story.
This one starts out with Sylvia, the owner who is sending Bonnie on her vacation and to Clare who runs a quilt shop on the island.
Bonnie is divorcing Craig after he had found another online. He now wants to drag things out with hopes she'll give up her portion of the money they made from his estate furniture antique sale.
They have planned to open a new quilt camp like the one Sylvia runs in PA. The inn is not a quilt camp yet and she hopes with Bonnie's consulting she can persuade her to stay on after the winter months to help run the quilt camp.
Liked hearing the differences from Hawaiian quilts and USA quilts. Like Irish fisherman designs no two are the same, just like Hawaiian quilt patterns. Each quilt is made with the one who's getting it specially for them only.
Liked the party around Halloween and how it's celebrated in Hawaii. Lots of political discussions with those who live there....
She has a choice to make and she needs to keep him from changing the quilt camp.... She feels betrayed that they won't stand up with her to save her shares in the company. The male music player tries to show her new sights that'd be good for the campers
and take her mind off her problems. Turmoil and attacks, can she and others survive them.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

I think it's amazing how one book can incorporate spousal abuse, extra-marital affairs, and Hawaiian history and culture and center this eclectic mix of topics around quilting. It is an authentic slice of life reading "The Aloha Quilt" and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Whenever I pick up a book in Chiaverini's series, I feel like I'm catching up with old friends, and this book was no exception. What is even better, is that I come away from her books feeling as though I've learned something. She does justice to the Hawaiian culture in providing an objective history of the state, and though I'm sure it is lacking in depth, it has peaked my curiosity and interest in the state.

What I really love about these books is they're the right mix of educational, historical and chick lit. I love the characters - and although Bonnie has never been my favorite, you couldn't help but feel some kindship for her through this story.

My favorite part is how they get me all fired up to try something new. It makes you want to rush right out to make a Hawaiian quilt or see the Queen's Quilt.

This is my second favorite of the series. I will always love THE QUILTER'S APPRENTICE first, but TH ALOHA QUILT is a close second, if not a tie for first.
This one is all about Bonnie and all her travails she hopes to leave behind by taking a friend up on her offer of six months in Hawaii helping start up a new quilt camp on the beaches of Maui. Bonnie is dealing with a difficult divorce and needs a respite. She finds that and more.
I absolutely loved listening to this book!

A deeper involvement into Bonnie's life, of how she patches her life up again after it fell to pieces. Beautifully written, you almost feel like you're in Hawaii, and the Hawaiian traditions that are described makes you want to go and participate yourself!
