My first Sherlock Holmes, and it was everything I thought it'd be and more. The book fairly flew through my hands. It was fast and gripping. I liked all of the characters and the plot twists. Some of them I expected, and some I didn't, but it was a fun read the entire time.

This was so Agatha Christie-esque (yes, I know Doyle came first but I am first and foremost a Queen Christie fan), and it kept me turning the pages so quickly I finished in a day. The prose and vocabulary wasn’t too much for the time period in which it was written, the mystery itself was clever and the wrap-up just as shocking at the climax. I will absolutely be picking up more Sherlock Holmes books now that I’ve finally taken the first plunge!

I don't think I ever read this before but I have a rating for it. I'm reading it with my 13 year-old son (he's competing in a reading competition in school).
Very cool mystery with some aspects of horror. I was a little surprised at the huge chunk of the book that didn't feature Holmes at all.
More importantly my son liked it a lot and is now very interested in the most recent show featuring a modern Holmes. Unfortunately we only have 3 episodes on Netflix and he's watched all those.
