This week I read Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood so I’m floating on big bubbly clouds of happiness while contemplating how much cheese I can purchase without the cashier eyeing me funny.

If you’ve seen reviews for Ali’s books, you’ve probably seen something along the likes of “one-hit wonder” mentioned. However, what some call a one-hit wonder, I call my happy place. After a long week or a big book slump, I can always count on an Ali Hazelwood book to bring me back to loving love

Well paced, well structured, the male lead was a bit bland but the dramatic irony and reveals were done excellently. The politics and character dynamics are just excellent. Not excellent for the genre, excellent in general. Unfortunately I cannot have a contemporary romance on my list of 5 star novels because i am a snob but seriously very well done. Author has a real knack for character dynamics, the female lead’s strengths are also her flaws and the plot just comes together so nicely. I will forgive the male lead for being too perfect (i love complex characters sorryyyyy) because the politics were good.
Edit: review is biased because I am a stem person aware of politics in academia so the worldbuilding was super understandable. Author is clearly writing for and about herself but that is ok because the whole evil advisor reveal was excellent. Motivated me to get past the romance scenes.
