I got halfway through before I realized I was only halfway through. At which point I felt exhausted at the prospect of continuing. I feel like the plot is being stretched out far too much. I'm also currently reading a number of books that just are appealing to me more. And at the end of the day (or during the course of one), I'd rather hang out with the other fictional detectives I've been reading about.

I thought that the author may have written romance novels prior to this because this has all of the pathetic earmarks of a romance novel. Rich eligible caring bachelor falls head over heels for a talented and beautiful, but injured, woman. Pad the book with endless back and forth: I won't work for you! Yes you will! I won't! You will! No, I won't. Yes, you will. Nuh-uh I won't. Yuh-huh you will. Except make that back and forth emotionally abusive from the woman because that means she's a tough cookie, right? And it makes her OH so much more attractive when she says things like, "Get out. Don't bother me. Goodbye." Yeah. Such a charming woman. Any man would obviously go nuts over her. And then she always caves. She just likes to bitch, I guess. And the doofus man who is showering money on her even when she misses the most elementary of clues from the very start - well - he just takes it. People like this make me want to vomit whether they're fictional or not. What a stupid book.

Good, fast mystery. Not too predictable but not too complicated either. A good beach read or mindless afternoon.

Or should I say 3,5 stars?

Actual rating: More like one star and maybe a half star. Two stars because I finished it and feel it earns an extra star on that alone.

Not really sure how to articulate my feelings on this book, honestly. I can't say I really liked it, but something about it got me to finish reading it nonetheless, so I'm unsure if dislike is the correct word, either. I guess I'm... neutral to it? The only description I can think of is a bit too rude for my liking so I won't say it.

Can say I enjoyed... the first fifty or so pages of it, I think? I mostly can just say that I liked it less and less the more it went on, and by the time it was over, I was glad to be done with it.

I might give other books in this series a try if I find them at a library, just to give the writer another chance. But I'm not sure this series or style of writing is really for me.

*actually 3.5 stars

This was a fun book. Even though the characters can get annoying and the story bland (it's your average conspiracy theory), the epilogue more than makes up for it.
