The book was written by applying the rules of learning the authors set out from the start (retrieval practice, spaced repetition, mixed & interleave practice, etc.) so it was really easy to understand and follow through. I was exposed to the different methods of learning listed in the book before picking it up, but it was nice nonetheless to learn a bit more about the empirical research that went behind these most effective learning methods. That being said, there are sections I found quite repetitive and as a result, boring, which I understand serve the purpose of retrieval and spaced repetition and could be helpful for those who read this book over a course of several days instead of reading it all in one sitting. Aside from that, this was a nice read. There’s some advice regarding practical application of the concepts presented in chapter 8 for students, life-long learners, teachers and people at work generally, which could be useful to some.

Excellent information on the science of learning. A must read for educators, parents, or anyone interested in improving their learning efficiency.
Nothing revolutionary here, but a pithy and enjoyable recap about how we learn and hint(!) it’s not intuitive. Learning tools like anki and sketchy transformed medical learning over a decade ago now, but likely in response to “Make It Stick” and its contemporary science. According to its own principles, it’s critical to occasionally practice the basics in perpetuity, and solidifies healthy learning foundations as I begin residency. Recommend if neuroscience-y/outliers/educated type books are your jam

Such good info !!! Everyone should read this and apply to their lives even if you’re no longer a student.
That being said, I would recommend to read chapter 8 first, then the rest of the book if you want to know more. It has some nice stories that help exemplify the theories presented, and really drives home the reasoning behind all the learning research. In practicality however, chapter 8 is really all you need :)

This changed my life. Majority of the Evidences are not necessary but I assure you they do pack an impact
I listened to this book just in time before school starts. I learned a lot about the science of learning and why certain learning techniques; many which I have been using during undergrad don't really work and why. Going to give the chapter about various learning techniques multiple listens over the course of the new semester.
Will introduce a few wrinkles in my teaching as a result of reading this.
