The first half of this book was super slow. She really sets up the mysterious vibe, but it felt like it took a little too long to get into figuring everything out. However, once I hit the 50% mark, I couldn’t put the book down! The mystery unfolded in a fantastic way and it had me guessing until the end.

I’m so sad because i was really looking forward to this! I really enjoyed Spells for Forgetting and while this had the same slow pacing, the characters weren’t nearly as likable. The twist was very predictable and there were a lot of side plots that didn’t flesh out (the owls???). Giving 1.5 stars for small town setting and the “past” storyline which was definitely the most interesting part of the book. I’m sorry, I tried! I probably should have just DNF’d

This was a solid book, with an interesting twist you’re really meant to question everyone . Still, it’s interesting Johnny gets away with “the accident”, but is killed in the end anyways . I like the writing style, though preferred Spells for Forgetting. Finally, I didn’t think that James and Micah needed to get together
