I was excited for this after loving June Farrow but this was pretty disappointing. It's more like Spells for Forgetting but less interesting, with bland characters. The time jump of 20 years between leaving and returning home is just way too long for a lot of it to be believable. For me it didn't really reach the same atmospheric level as her other books, where the environment feels like a character in itself. The ending felt rushed, random, and quite cheesy... but I'm still gonna read every book Adrienne Young writes 🤷♀️
It was interesting and boring at the same time...
I like the light style and the combination of a romance with a thriller.
This book is similar to another book by the author, "Spells for Forgetting," but there is no magic here, which is not a drawback
They are twins who feel each other, but at one point, she leaves the small town, and her brother's death brings her back.
She feels that it’s not a coincidence and will search for those responsible until the end.
But suddenly, what she finds out might not be to her liking?
•From friends to lovers
•Second chance
•Murder in a small town
⭐️3.5/5

this could have been about 1/4 less pages, besides some dragging it held my interest and was a satisfying read.

I went in blindly and had no idea it had like a mysterious plot. I really enjoyed how it felt like the story just kind of wrapped me up, while figuring out what happened. It was whimsical, in a way, and touching. Even more special when I found out the author has a twin brother. Emotional, mysterious, and a little love story going on, as well.. it was a great mix.
However, I do feel at times it was a bit slower. Nothing really jumped out at me as a five star. I did get a little icky over the suspicion of part of the mystery. Not bad, just not a 5 star.

this is a huge for sisters who act like Boy Moms. i didnt like this, the best thing i can say about it is that its very atmospheric and somewhat immersive but the characters were painful to read about and the 'small town' setting felt very one dimensional. i never felt like i truly understood the characters and their motivations because the information revealed about them was very .....repetitive? it felt like the same thing would be 'revealed' every 50 pages with no new or meaningful insight. also the perpetrators....so the women that u constantly looked down on because they stayed inside this stupid small town are the killers? both times? plus using grooming as a plot device just so our main character, at the grown age of 40, could realize there is a chance she needs to stop defending her brother for every small thing? its just a little crazy to me. i couldnt really care about the magical realism aspect of it and i wish her relationship with her brother, the driving force of this book, was more meaningful than just sensing his presence every 2 seconds and unlearning her boy momisms...
