This was a fun time! Reminiscent of goosebumps; you never really think things won't work out, but you enjoy the thrill through the characters' feelings. I think the way race was handled was a little odd. It was overly simplistic, and I couldn't help but feel like Kois might not have been the best person to tell that story. He handles queerness better, and he mostly skirts around the first generation Indian-American perspective, so that doesn't stand out as much. But otherwise, this was a really fun read.
Im so glad I pushed through Kevin’s part of the book, because the rest was incredible. A pleasant surprise was lesbian witches! Reads like YA, but is definitely adult.

Really enjoyed this weird yet heartwarming coming of age story.
In 1987, a group of middle school boys visit the most haunted neighborhood Milwaukee to sell newspaper subscriptions with the promise of cash and Burger King. Six boys jump into the sketchy van with their irresponsible “boss” Kevin and split up into pairs to make their sales pitches. They each return with stories of werewolves, witches and trolls.
This was an entertaining story that felt very YA except for some explicit sex. I enjoyed reading about the boys’ differences in backgrounds and how they all came together to overcome the neighborhood monsters. I think my favorite chapter was Ryan and Mark’s adventure. It warmed my heart. I also loved the vintage looking cover of the book.
Thanks Harper Perennial for the copy of this book.

It maybe wasn’t really a five star book, but there are so few books about Milwaukee, and I got a lot out of it, so I will rate it five stars

Too much going on here. I think it would have worked better if there was one threat to all the boys, instead of each pair facing a different type of monster.
