I would risk it all for Hanako. I love my sweet baby boy so much. I would kill for him. I would die for him. I would sell my soul for him. I just adore him so much 😭💖 Like, I can’t even put into words why I adore him so much. I just look at his precious face and want to weep. Plus, I know his story just gets more complex as time goes on, and I just wanna hug him until we both burst.

Anyway. Nene and Kou are also my sweet babies 💖 Nene is hilarious with her complex about her legs. Kou is a sweetie wanting to protect Nene from the One Ghost that wouldn’t hurt her at all 😂 Bless his soul. They are precious

Also. This volume contains the short story My Dear Living Dead, and it is some of the most fucked up depressing shit I’ve read in manga (ok not really nothing compares to MADK). The point I’m trying to make is that for something that starts sweet and loving, it has a really sad ending with one of the characters committing a heinous act. Like, wow.
You really gonna kill the girl you love to be with her forever? And then erase her memory of the events? Take a chill pill, please 😭
But it was also really good as a short story! I really liked it, and it just gives a good sense of this mangaka’s vibes as a creator.

Its hard to rate this as one thing because its really 2 separate stories in the same book. The first half is the first version of the Toilet Bound Hanako-Kun comics, kinda like the original pilot episode of a TV show. The pilot before the pilot. That was pretty much exactly what I expected it to be, and I'm glad that the real series turned out the way that it did because I love it and I wouldn't have loved this quite as much but it was interesting to see the starting point, you know?

Then the second half of the book is completely separate. It is the author's debut work My Dear Living Dead. I love that the author was able to incorporate so much world building in such a short time? I didn't know what I would think about it but I was fully intrigued and pulled into the world and empathizing with Lili's feelings before I knew it. I knew there was going to be a twist of some kind, and I guessed the possibility when it was kinda introduced but i was like nooo that won't happen, I don't want that to happen, it's gotta be something else. It wasn't something else. It's a very nice, dark, little short story. I love love love the author's art as per usual, but I definitely can't say that I like Cult as much as Hanako. Basically, the little comic at the end where Nene and Hanako read My Dear Living Dead? I'm Nene. I wanted to believe and I'm a fool hahaha

I finally managed to get a physical copy of this volume after wanting it for so long, because just look at the cover! But anyway onto the actual review...

So this basically contains the original pilot plot for Hanako Kun plus the authors debut work. I enjoyed both a lot! The debut work was very intriguing and I'm glad it had a "nice" ending (nice referring to the fact that it wrapped up nicely, not that the ending was nice. The ending was f*cked up.). The pilot plot for Hanako Kun was also very nice and also had a nice ending (Both meaning this time. Because although the ending was sad, it was still a good ending!).

Anyway I really liked this volume and I liked seeing an alternate version of the story! It was very cute and sad at the same time!

Both this show and now the manga have a special place in my heart and I absolutely adore them!
