All my love to Minalima. This book just...really didn't age well. I can't imagine ever reading it to a child and expecting it to hold their attention at all. It barely held mine.

I enjoyed reading the first half of the book to see the difference between the book and the films. However, I found the second half which was just short stories rather dull and tedious.

If I were only rating the Mowgli stories in this book, I probably would've given this book 4 stars. I enjoyed that portion of the book, but the other stories really fell flat for me. Rikki Tikki Tavi was good, though not as good as Mowgli's stories. And the other stories bored me, sorry to say - that's what brought the rating down.

In spite of his very real difficulties, Kipling is a joy to read.

What a weird little book. I had no idea this was a collection of short stories, I thought the book would be about Mowgli's adventures. How wrong I was! I was reading a book called The Jungle Books, plural, and I decided to not read the second one. Many times I found myself quite confused, with the stories not making much sense, nor seeming to have much purpose? I think I missed something crucial here.

As a life long fan of the Disney movie it was about time I read where it all started. Naturally it’s decisevly different than the movies (the live action remake Disney did is closer to the true story). I was anticipating Sher Khan to be more fierce than he turned out to be. There wasn’t much action to his story to beef him up. I found the stories delightful and a pleasent read, I wasn’t obsessed so it’s closer to 3.5 stars.

Annoyed this took me so long to read. Annoyed that there exists two versions of it so now I don’t know which one I should be rating. The one with many different stories from different animals just got more boring with each story until I didn’t even pay attention to the last one. The version with Mowgli throughout the entire book was fast paced which makes sense because it is a children’s book, but I’m just annoyed at this point. I just didn’t enjoy this and was only reading it to finish it. Sorry.

It didn't swipe me off my feet, but it was a nice read.
the characters were enjoyable, but I couldn't relate to any of them. The stories were short and mostly independent of each other and more than half didn't even take place in the jungle, but I'll take what I can. Life gave me lemons. :)
