The classic fantasy tale that should be read by everyone. Mowgli is a young boy who is taken in by a wolf pack. He is raised knowing the Law of the Jungle, but as a man-cub he can't stay in the jungle forever. This book also contains several other tales of India including "Rikki Tikki Tavi" and "Toomai of the Elephants" and another tale. A Reader's Corner Highly Recommended Read. A truly wonderful classic.

This wasn't what I expected at all!
The main stories of Mowgli were what I was most familiar with but I thought that was the entire Jungle Book story, I never realised there were other, shorter stories included.
Out of the other stories included, I liked the White Seal most of all and Toomai of the Elephants least of all.
I'm glad I finally got to read this book but it didn't live up to my expectations. I think I would have preferred more or longer stories about Mowgli as I really liked the cast of characters in those stories.
That being said, I did quite like Kipling's writing style and found the stories pleasant to read and easy to follow.

Although a children's story, a perfect book for an adult. I sobbed at the end.
The Jungle Book was much better than I expected! It is definitely different to one of my favourite childhood Disney movies, but the short stories are so lively and animated that they capture the jazz-like pace of the movie. The animals all seemed to come alive in these pages, each being assigned a specific, well-crafted personality based on how Kipling perceived these animals if given human-like descriptions and the power of human speech. Really glad I picked this book up from the library!
