I liked it. It was your usual Cynthia Eden affair. So, nothing particularly unique. But it was entertaining and kept me interested.
I liked both MCs War and Rose. Though their names were a little too funny to me as a couple...but yeah.

I love a good light mystery, so this was perfect! It almost read like a movie, with the pacing and the relationship dynamics between the characters.
It's very easy to read and get into the story but it's a bit too cheesy for me at times. I think part of why I felt that way was because of how fast War and Rose patched up their relationship. It's believable given they have history, but I didn't feel invested in their romance because their "history" was more told than actually shown in the book.
To me, though this is a romance story, I was more in it for the mystery than the romance itself. It's not a full-on, nail-biting kind of mystery, so if you're expecting that also, you might be disappointed. It's very light in general, but that doesn't make it any less realistic. So if you enjoy realistic serial-killing mystery/case, then you'll enjoy this. Nonetheless, it's a good book and I definitely can't wait to continue on with the series.
Also, I can't believe how in love I am with the nickname "War". It's unusual for me and I find it so unique because of that.

3 stars- I was suckered by a reviewer saying that it was like Mindf*ck series- spoiler it is NOT!
It was ok, I liked the characters together and yes, they solve the mystery and save the day. But it wasn't gripping for some reason. It took a few days to finish which tells a story in itself!
The dialogue with Odin, the side character, was way wittier:
It was like pulling teeth to get responses. “You were way chattier in the bedroom.”
“That’s because I thought my best friend had just committed a colossal mistake. I was worried.”
She stopped tapping her fingers and strolled toward him. “You were wrong.”
“I already admitted that. I said—”
“I meant when you called yourself a charmer. I don’t know who told you that lie, but it was mean. You should know, you have not been very charming so far in our relationship.”
War:
He hung up the phone. Narrowed his eyes on Rose. “Do not look at me like that.”
“How?”
“Like I freaking stole your favorite puppy, ate your last bit of cookie dough ice cream, and hid all the chocolate in the house from you.” Her lips wanted to tremble so she pressed them together. He knew cookie dough was her favorite, dammit.
They declare love for each other after they get the obstacles removed. I have to say the story handled the break-up believability pretty well:
For a moment, she couldn’t move at all. “You, um, that’s kind of a poetic thing to say.”
“And I’m not a real poetic guy.”
“That’s not what I meant—”
“I know what I am. I’m the bastard who gets shit done. The one not afraid to play dirty. To do the dirty deeds that are necessary. I don’t usually have pretty words. I don’t say the right words. I screw up shit and that’s just life.” His lips thinned. “But I want to be different with you. You make me different.”
And you almost had me at "pug":
“Do you want to die?” Spittle flew from his mouth.
No, she didn’t want to die. She wanted to live a long and happy life with War. Maybe have a kid or two. Definitely get a pug.
She wanted to walk along the beach at sunset. She wanted to make love with War under the moonlight. Rose had a million things on her to-do list. And dying? Not on that list.

This is a phenomenal start to a new romantic suspense series. This book gives you everything you need romance wise, action, comedy relief. When the book ended, I thought its over already? I felt like I didn't get enough of Rose and War.
War didn't have an easy childhood but he still became a good man with dedications, honesty, and doing whatever it takes to get what he wants. Rose is War's ex, whom he is hired to find because she is on the run from the police. She has been accused of killing multiple people, but she is trying to find the killer who is also hunting her.
I loved these two characters together and couldn't get enough. I would recommend this book and new series. I also can't wait to get to know more about Odin.
Received ARC in exchange for voluntary honest review.

A great story of second chances with a fun mystery plot thrown in and lots of sensual passion to keep the story spicy. Would have loved it to be longer but alas... C'est Le vie!
Warren "War" Channing is suspicious when the man who came between Rose Shadow and himself hires War to find Rose and force her to give herself up to the police, but War doesn't believe Rose is capable of murder, so he accepts the $20,000 finder's fee and goes after her. Rose knows she is on the radar of a serial killer. As an investigative reporter, she has tried and failed to discover enough clues to put the killer away before he kills two more women. However, she is determined to stay out of jail and find out who the killer is. It isn't long before War finds Rose, and it's clear that they will have to work together if they are going to solve this case and keep Rose safe.
No Escape from War is a very light romantic suspense. Although the ending provides some action and a twist, we never really learn the killer's motivation. Much of the dialogue in the book doesn't ring true and many of the situations are over the top. Even though the characters have been in a relationship together previously, when they reunite, it still feels too quick when conflicts and problems are easily overlooked. Also, it is difficult to connect with the characters, but the bedroom scenes are very steamy and well written. No Escape from War offers a few good elements, but overall, it isn't a strong read.

4.25⭐
No Escape From War is a really enjoyable, fast-paced read. That tremendously combines a second-chance romance with the hunt for a serial killer. By crime reporter Rose and her onetime boyfriend PI/ex-SEAL/bar owner and all round hottie Warren ‘War’ Channing.
And it was gloriously easy to read, entertaining, exciting, and a little angsty. Not to mention full of sparks as the pair reunite and quickly get reacquainted with a pair of cuffs only this time they're not entirely for pleasure.
Would happily recommend.

So so
Rose is on the run from a killer who set her up to take the fall for him....that is until he kills her. War is hired to hunt down Rose--who happens to be his ex--and turn her into the cops. He's absolutely delighted, until he unravels the truth of what's truly going on.
I actually really liked that War and Rose had a bit of a previous history with each other that didn't happen in the book. I felt like it lended a bit more credibility to their existing feelings for each other. Although I feel like the relationship development was still pretty lacking in the book which is why I scored it so low. The stalking, killing, and sleuthing was pretty interesting and I would not have guessed who the killer was, so that was super fun. This book was a quick and mildly entertaining read overall.

I really enjoyed this book! War and Rose are great.
"I will love you, I will protect you, I will stand with you against anyone and everyone. He stared into her eyes. You're it for me, baby. My end game. My once-in-a-lifetime."
