Lily Allen is inconsistently insightful throughout this memoir. She's very good at recognising why she's feeling and reacting certain ways - for example, she stopped hugging her mum when her first boyfriend met her need to be touched, which was a conscious choice. She's less adept, though, at judging other people's reactions to her. She literally writes "[t]hat's how I got my first record deal - it was an act of nepotism, pure and simple," and then gets confused and defensive when people say she had a leg up.

It's not her fault she had a famous dad; if she just acknowledged the advantage, the critics would probably drop it. As it stands, it remains an odd blind spot.

On the whole, this was a clear-eyed look at an interesting life.

Don't normally rate memoirs as it feels weird rating someone's literal life story, BUT in this case I just had to make it clear that this was a big five stars. I have loved Lily Allen literally since I was about seven, she was my first ever concert and an artist I come back to time and time again in my adult life. This book just made me love her even more. Her story is wild but also so relatable in places, and I just have so much respect for someone who has been through so much and is so honest and upfront about it all. I really wish we could get an updated version of this. Also, listening to her narrate it made it even better, her voice is so unique and it felt like she was literally sat telling me her life story.

This was such a difficult but interesting listen. I absolutely love Lily Allen and I thought this was a really emotional and brave insight into her live. Really loved it.

Hearing about Lily Allen’s journey was interesting - I didn’t know very much about her life. She had some tough times for sure. And I really liked hearing about the impact her story had with regards to support for victims or stalkers.
However, listening the the audiobook, she sounded bored most of the time. Made it hard to listen to. She admits in the Q&A at the end that she feels uncomfortable reading her work. But come on. People are spending money to hear you. Buck up.
