wow! This one has my brain wracked.

OVERALL IMPRESSION: This book is not a book for everyone. It is dark and twisted and I don't think that everyone will enjoy it. On the other hand, I was sucked in from the first chapter. I loved the writing style and how it made me feel like I was in the story.

I feel very much like my brain has been scrambled after finishing this. I loved trying to figure everything out, and the ending was a shocker for me. I don't want to say too much and give anything away, but this book is filled with twists and turns.

CHARACTERS: It's hard to relate to the characters in this book. Lane has a pretty dark personality, but she makes a wonderful main character and I really enjoyed reading about her.

COVER: The cover is okay. It's pretty plain and a little creepy.

**I received an ARC of this book from Amazon Vine for my honest review.

cute and great plot twist. would have appreciated it more if it wasn't so similar to dexter.

I don't really know what to say about this book - it weirded me out, but not in a good way. Maybe I would have more complimentary things to say if I hadn't recently read "I Hunt Killers", which I loved. I couldn't help comparing the two, and "Killer Instinct" came out sorely lacking. I'm not sure if the author expected me to empathize with Lane, but I found her impossible to warm up to. The only reason I continued reading was because of the amount of time I'd already invested, and also to find out who the killer was. I did find myself eagerly guessing the identity of the Decapitator, so in that respect the author was successful. Unfortunately, I won't continue with this series simply because I don't care enough about what happens to Lane to waste any more time on it.

There's no way of getting around comparing this book to Dexter, so let's get that out if the way first. This is totally the teen version of Darkly Dreaming Dexter.

That being said, it was a totally fun read. Fast paced with tons of red herrings to keep you guessing through the whole book.

The book has very frank depictions of violence and teenage sex and at one point
Spoiler I definitely thought I was about to be reading about a teenage girl cutting a rapist's dick off
so it's not for the easily offended.

All in all a fast, fun read and although I detest the apparent requirement that all YA novels have a sequel, I really wouldn't mind getting to read more about Lane.

My teenage, true-crime-loving self enjoyed this immensely.

Holy crap that was not what I was expecting. very good book!

This book started off really good, and had some intense moments. I've always liked the idea of the main character having the urges to kill, and fighting them. There were some parts that weren't quite up to par with the rest of the book though. While I liked the plot twist of
SpoilerLane's mom being the serial killer, and I found the whole bit towards the end very reminiscent of Dexter
, the actual ending was a bit weird and lackluster.
